Joey Yung Talks Concert Dreams, Shoulder Pain, and Why 2025 Might Be the Year for Kai Tak

Nope, it’s not happening — not this year, at least.

Cantopop queen Joey Yung Tso-yi has put the brakes on chatter about her staging a grand year-end concert at the much-anticipated new Kai Tak Sports Park in Kowloon. Speaking to the press during the launch event for the Hong Kong International Balloon Festival, the 44-year-old singer addressed the swirling rumours with a cool head and her signature candour.

“I only said ‘see you in Kai Tak’, but I never gave a date,” Joey clarified with a smile. “Of course, I’d love to perform there. That place is a dream venue for any Hong Kong singer. But let’s be real — it’s already July. Putting together a show that big by the end of the year? Way too rushed.”

When asked whether a 2025 show might be on the cards, she gave a hopeful “hopefully”, though she admitted she’s not in the loop when it comes to the logistics.

Joey Yung Says Kai Tak Concert Not Happening This Year

“I don’t even know if my team has submitted an application yet,” she laughed. “That’s their job. Mine is just to stay in good shape so I’m ready whenever the time comes.”

But staying in shape isn’t always easy. Joey revealed she’s currently battling quite a bit of pain in her right shoulder and is due for an MRI scan. “It’s been acting up quite badly,” she admitted. “Years of rehearsals, dancing, lifting — and I also banged into something the other day. Now it’s a combo of old injuries and new ones.”

In classic Joey fashion, she joked about her physical state: “I feel like an old soldier — first it was my knees, now it’s my shoulder. If I wait any longer to do a concert, who knows what’ll start hurting next!”

Still, despite the aches and the unknowns, Joey Yung’s passion for the stage clearly hasn’t dimmed. Fans might not get a year-end show at Kai Tak, but one thing’s for sure: when Joey does take to that stage, she’ll give it everything she’s got — aches, bumps, and all.
