X-NINE to Officially Disband This Month? Xia Zhiguang Leaves WJJW, Xiao Zhan Awaits Contract End |
Word on the street is that Chinese boy group X-NINE (X玖少年团) could be calling it a day this June 2025. After nearly nine years in the game, the group that once stole hearts on Tencent’s survival show X-Fire might finally be wrapping things up—with several members already paving separate paths.
Sources close to the situation are saying Xia Zhiguang is officially parting ways with long-time management Wajijiwa Entertainment (WJJW) and will be heading over to Huanyu Entertainment, the home of popular dramas and rising young talents. While there hasn’t been a public statement just yet, industry insiders say the move is already in motion behind the scenes.
As for Xiao Zhan, arguably the most high-profile member of the group, things are a bit more technical. He’s been operating under his own independent studio for a while now—separate from WJJW—but the original X-NINE group contract is still in effect. That’s why his official Weibo account continues to carry the “X玖少年团-X玖” prefix. However, once the contract officially expires, that prefix will be dropped, and with it, the last remaining formal ties to WJJW.
🚀 A Quick Look Back at X-NINE’s Journey
Formed back in 2016 as part of a joint project between Tencent Video, EE Media, and SM Entertainment, X-NINE was born out of the idol survival show X-Fire (燃烧吧少年). The original eight-member lineup—Xiao Zhan, Gu Jiacheng, Wu Jiacheng, Peng Chuyue, Guo Zifan, Zhao Lei, Xia Zhiguang, and Yan Xujia—debuted with their single “In Our Own Name (以己之名)” on September 28, 2016.
At their peak, the group had strong backing, slick production, and a loyal fanbase. But as time went on, activities slowed down, and most members gradually shifted focus to acting, solo projects, or behind-the-scenes work. Some members have stayed relatively low-key, while others—especially Xiao Zhan—skyrocketed to A-list stardom.
🕵️ What’s Next?
With whispers of a formal disbandment floating around and Xia Zhiguang already moving to Huanyu, it looks like we’re truly approaching the end of the X-NINE era. A formal announcement is reportedly on the way, and fans are already preparing themselves emotionally for the goodbye.
For now, Xiao Zhan continues to thrive under his own studio, and if the Weibo prefix removal is any hint, it won’t be long before the X-NINE chapter is officially closed for good.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on this and updating once official statements land. Stay tuned!
