Sammo Hung’s Douyin Debut: Movie Edits, Motivation & a Peek at Family Life |
Hong Kong action cinema legend Sammo Hung has officially joined Douyin — and let’s just say, the 73-year-old is putting the rest of us to shame with his social media game.
Yes, you read that right. The big boss of kung fu cinema is now on Chinese TikTok, and he’s already racked up over 730,000 followers in just three days.
While most of us are still stuck editing half-baked drafts for our stories and Reels, Sammo’s first post is a polished mash-up of his old film scenes, layered with a motivational message that hits hard:
“Losing isn't scary. Being afraid of losing is. Losing is only temporary – but taking risks? That should be your lifelong attitude.”
Now that’s some sensei-level advice.
A Legend Embracing the Digital Age
Despite needing a wheelchair these days, Sammo isn’t slowing down one bit. He’s regularly spotted doing his own thing in the markets — rolling through Sheung Shui or Shenzhen supermarkets on his own, picking up groceries and living that lowkey semi-retired life. He even joked once that going to the wet market is his idea of “entertainment”.

And now? He’s proving he’s just as game online too. While many celebs shy away from apps like Douyin, Sammo jumped right in — or as he cheekily put it in his debut caption,
“I’ve finally ‘fished’ my way here.”
Classic dad joke energy. Gotta love it.
Family Man Moment: Father’s Day Post Goes Viral
Aside from martial arts montages and life wisdom, Sammo's fans also got a rare peek into his home life. In his latest upload, he shared a sweet pre-Father’s Day video with his eldest son, actor Timmy Hung.
The short clip ended with a heartwarming family photo featuring three generations — Sammo, his kids, and his adorable grandkids.
His wife Joyce Godenzi, the former beauty queen and actress, also made a surprise appearance in the shot — and fans were quick to gush over her age-defying beauty.
Safe to say, people were touched. The comment section was flooded with well wishes, nostalgic shoutouts to his classic films, and plenty of new fans discovering him for the first time.
