If you’re a fan of Eternal Brotherhood and dived into Season 2 hoping for a rollercoaster, well… you got a bit of that, mixed with some slow moments and a cliffhanger that’ll have you shouting “Wait, what?!” at the screen. The show tries juggling two major storylines, but neither quite lands as well as we hoped.
The Two Big Arcs: Comedy vs. Political Chess
The first storyline follows our main man Zichuan Xiu, aka the King of Light (KOL). This arc aimed for comedy and quirky antics — but honestly, it didn’t quite deliver. A lot of the clan battles dragged on, making the pacing feel repetitive. The martial arts scenes were the saving grace, offering some much-needed action to keep things from becoming dull.
Meanwhile, the second storyline shifts into the imperial city’s cutthroat political chess game. Here, power-hungry characters scheme and strategise their way up the ladder. The romance is barely there, mostly sidelined for backstabbing and alliances. While many characters felt a bit flat, a few grey-area players like the calm and cunning Chieftain kept the intrigue alive.

The Chieftain stands out with his cool, calculated approach. He doesn’t rush, often pausing to sip tea or call for a breather during tense moments—letting others reveal their true colours while he stays three steps ahead. His chess metaphors and strategic mind make him a fascinating watch.
Di Lin, the powerful minister, shares a subtle but intriguing dynamic with the Chieftain, while the ambitious Ma Wei seizes every chance to climb the ladder—making him a crafty player in the political game.
Chemistry and Soundtrack
Zichuan Xiu and Liu Fengshuang’s interactions are a highlight—natural, balanced, with a good mix of humour, tension, and warmth that adds heart to the story. The soundtrack, though, is a bit hit and miss. Some guitar riffs sounded oddly out of place—like they belonged in a country western flick rather than a historical C-drama, which occasionally broke the mood.

Plot Holes and Unfinished Business
Just when I was about to lose interest, Zichuan Xiu’s mysterious premonition about Di Lin grabbed me back in. Sadly, it went nowhere, and the season wrapped up with a cliffhanger that leaves way too many questions unanswered.
We get introduced to new family struggles, like the Bie clan’s internal drama, but those plots are left hanging. Ka Dan’s tragic story was tough—loyal to a fault, trapped in a life he didn’t choose, and dealing with betrayal and heartbreak. His arc was one of the more emotional threads, but it didn’t get the closure it deserved.
Some production choices also felt odd. The inside sets looked futuristic and sci-fi, clashing with the typical historical outdoor scenes. It’s like watching Game of Thrones one minute, then stepping into a time warp the next.

Final Thoughts: A Decent Watch, But Needs Closure
If you loved Season 1, you’ll want to watch Season 2 to keep up, especially for Liu Yuning fans. It starts exactly where Part 1 left off, which is a relief, and the brotherhood between the three sworn friends remains a strong pillar.
That said, the editing could’ve been tighter. With 24 episodes, there’s enough content to keep you watching but not enough to fully satisfy. The political intrigue was half-hearted at times, and many storylines felt rushed or incomplete.
Despite its flaws, the cast puts in solid performances, and the fight scenes are cool enough to hold your attention. The emotional moments, especially Ka Dan’s struggles and the reunion scenes, give the drama its heart.

The Ending Explained: What Now for Eternal Brotherhood?
The season finale throws a huge cliffhanger at us, with lots of loose ends still waiting to be tied up. Zichuan Xiu’s rise as the “King of Light” to unite Yuanzhou is impressive, but his ninja origins and some family plots remain mysteries. The political battles are far from over, and some betrayals still sting.
The fact that Ka Dan and Si Yi Lin didn’t end up together adds to the bittersweet tone. With Season 3 confirmed, there’s hope these threads will finally be addressed. But with so much left hanging, it’s clear the show needs more episodes—or better pacing—to give fans a proper payoff.
