Huang Zitao Responds After Scalpers Exploit Domyway Sanitary Pad Shortage

Huang Zitao might’ve just redefined the celebrity business game — but not without kicking up a bit of drama along the way.

On 18 May 2025, the C-pop idol and actor officially launched his new female hygiene brand “Domyway” via livestream, looking sharp as ever and speaking candidly about breaking taboos and building a product with purpose. And clearly, the public was here for it — within mere hours, over 80,000 packs of Domyway pads had flown off the digital shelves, raking in more than 40 million yuan. We’re talking complete wipeout — pun intended.

The buzz wasn’t just about the product itself. Huang Zitao’s loyal fanbase, known for rallying behind every project he touches, showed up in full force. Whether it was for the cause, the cute pastel packaging, or just supporting their fave, the launch turned into an online frenzy.

Domyway Launch Hits Scalping Problem After Huang Zitao’s Product Sells Out

But where there’s hype, there’s always someone looking to cash in.

Not long after Domyway sold out on its official platforms, listings started popping up across  resale sites — at jaw-dropping prices. Pads that originally retailed for a very reasonable ¥49.8 (around RM30) were suddenly going for ¥55, ¥99, even ¥190. That’s nearly four times the retail price. Honestly, cheeky doesn’t even begin to cover it.

Fans were fuming.

💬 “Some people just want the product, not a luxury item. Stop turning basic needs into profit,” one netizen posted.

💬 “It’s great Zitao launched this Sanitary Pad, but the scalpers have ruined the whole vibe,” said another.

With tensions rising, Huang Zitao wasn’t about to sit on his hands. Taking to his official channels and livestreams, he quickly addressed the issue head-on. Calm but clearly not chuffed, he urged fans not to buy from unauthorised sources and reassured everyone that restocks were on the way. He also promised expanded retail availability, including offline stores, so fans could pick them up without paying an arm and a leg.

“Don’t feed the scalpers,” he said. “Domyway was created to be accessible, not exploited.”

It’s rare to see a male celebrity launching a feminine care brand — rarer still for it to blow up this massively. Zitao’s move has been widely praised for normalising discussions around menstrual health, especially among younger audiences in Asia. But the scalping backlash has also highlighted just how fragile the balance is when influencer-led hype meets limited stock.

Still, hats off to Zitao — or should we say pads off? The man took a bold step, smashed records, and is now taking action to protect the integrity of his brand and its buyers.

Let’s just hope the next batch of Domyway pads actually lands in the hands of real customers — not resellers with their eyes on profit margins.
