We all have those weird airport moments – lost luggage, endless queues, or that random security check that feels personal.

But Japanese rock legend GACKT just added a new one to the list: being asked if he’s a man.

The 51-year-old singer, known for his sharp cheekbones, flowing locks, and just generally looking way too good for his age, was recently stopped at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for a routine security check.

So far, so normal… until the officer hesitated. GACKT, puzzled by the awkward vibe, asked if something was wrong – only to be hit with the question: “Are you a male?”

Yes, really.

GACKT, who’s no stranger to turning heads, was clearly a bit thrown by the moment.

He later shared the story on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Please! How can you stop a man in his 50s and ask such a question?”

He topped it off with a photo of his airport look, as if to say, “Look at me – how is this confusing?”

To be fair, this isn’t the first time GACKT’s androgynous beauty has tripped up security.

He recalled another story from Las Vegas, where a casino guard thought he was underage.

GACKT was 45 at the time.

Passport comes out, guard sees his age, and according to GACKT, lets out a good ol’ American curse in disbelief. Oops.

Fans online were torn between laughing and applauding.

Many joked that being mistaken for a much younger woman is just a testament to GACKT’s timeless visuals.

Others expressed secondhand embarrassment but admired his calm response.

One comment read, “If I looked that good at 51, I wouldn’t even be mad.”

In case you’re wondering why the rock icon was at KLIA – GACKT actually lives in Malaysia, in a massive home just outside Kuala Lumpur.

He’s been based there for years and often flies back and forth for work.

All in all, while most of us would’ve found the situation mortifying, GACKT took it in stride – with humour, dignity, and a side of fabulous.

And let’s be honest: if airport staff are still unsure whether you’re 20 or 50, male or female… you’re probably winning at life.
