"The Legend of the Condor Heroes" Breaks Pre-Sale Records
Beijing — "The Legend of the Condor Heroes: Great Hero" has shattered Chinese box office records, surpassing 80 million yuan in pre-sale revenue by January 19, 2025.
This landmark achievement makes it the top domestic pre-sale champion in Chinese cinematic history.
The film also set a new record as the fastest to reach this figure during the Spring Festival season, surpassing "Detective Chinatown 3."
Adapted from Jin Yong's celebrated novel, the film covers Chapters 34-40 and is helmed by Tsui Hark, starring Xiao Zhan and Zhuang Dafei.
It is slated for release in mainland China on January 29, coinciding with the Lunar New Year.
Pre-sales for six Spring Festival films began at 9 a.m. on January 19, officially kicking off the box office race.
Within 10 hours, "The Legend of the Condor Heroes: Great Hero" dominated the charts, accounting for 39.5% of the total box office with over 53 million yuan.
If this momentum continues, its opening day box office is projected to surpass 100 million yuan, according to Sohu.
Second in pre-sales is "Nezha: The Devil Boy Conquers the Dragon King," with over 24 million yuan, followed by "Detective Chinatown 1900," "Creation of the Gods II," "Operation Hadal," and "Boonie Bears: Future Reborn."
Interestingly, despite leading pre-sales, the film ranks fourth in scheduled screenings, reflecting hesitation by cinemas to prioritise martial arts films during the Spring Festival.
Xiao Zhan's dedicated fanbase has been instrumental in the film’s success, driving an enthusiastic rush for tickets.
Pre-sale figures will significantly influence screening schedules in the coming days, and the intense competition among Spring Festival films is only just beginning.
