Anne Watanabe & Jasper Paakkonen Lead New WOWOW Drama

WOWOW has announced its latest international co-production, BLOOD & SWEAT, a gripping crime suspense drama set to release in 2026.

Co-produced with Finnish production company ICS, the series will star acclaimed Japanese actress Anne Watanabe and Finnish actor Jasper Paakkonen as detectives from different countries.

The story follows the duo as they work together to solve a series of bizarre murders spanning Japan and Finland.

Combining Japanese storytelling and Nordic noir aesthetics, the show promises to deliver a unique suspenseful atmosphere.

The project involves long-term, large-scale shoots in both Japan and Finland, showcasing breathtaking natural landscapes and intricate urban scenes.

BLOOD & SWEAT will be broadcast exclusively on WOWOW and Finland’s Nelonen Media.

This marks a significant step for WOWOW, which previously co-produced Tokyo Vice with Hollywood.

By teaming with Finland, a nation renowned for its Nordic noir genre, WOWOW aims to introduce an unprecedented suspense experience.

Anne Watanabe, celebrated for her international work, and Paakkonen, known for Vikings and BlackKklansman, will portray skilled detectives from Japan and Finland, respectively.

Their collaboration begins after a shocking murder series ties the two nations.

As suspense intensifies, viewers will explore the dark motives and intricate psychology behind the crimes. Expect updates as the production progresses toward its ambitious debut.
