Brooke Sheridan: Where Is Bo Dukes’ Ex-Girlfriend Now After Helping Solve Tara Grinstead’s Case?

Brooke Sheridan found herself at the centre of one of Georgia’s most closely followed criminal investigations after discovering that her boyfriend, Bo Dukes, knew far more about Tara Grinstead’s disappearance than he had ever admitted. What began as a seemingly ordinary relationship turned into an extraordinary personal dilemma when Dukes allegedly confessed his involvement in concealing evidence connected to the former teacher’s death.

Rather than protect the man she loved, Sheridan contacted investigators in 2017, providing information that helped bring the long-running case back into focus. NBC’s Dateline episode ‘The Orchard’ revisits her important role, exploring how one woman's decision to speak up helped investigators piece together a mystery that had remained unresolved for more than a decade.

Sheridan first met Dukes through a dating app, and their relationship gradually developed into something serious. By 2015, the couple had grown close enough for her to move in with him. Looking back on their relationship, Sheridan described Dukes as an exceptionally intelligent man and admitted that she had fallen deeply in love with him. As far as she knew, they were building a future together. There was little reason for her to imagine that the person sharing her home would eventually become connected to a case that had haunted a small Georgia community for years. Dating apps certainly come with their fair share of surprises, but this was hardly the sort anyone would expect.

Things reportedly began changing in 2017. Sheridan noticed that Dukes was behaving differently, experiencing mood swings and expressing thoughts that left her increasingly concerned about his wellbeing. She also recalled that he had been struggling with anxiety following earlier contact with investigators. Worried about what was happening, she eventually persuaded him to explain what was troubling him. What followed was a revelation that completely changed her understanding of the man she thought she knew.

According to Sheridan's account, Dukes told her that his friend Ryan Duke had been involved in Tara Grinstead's murder and that he had subsequently helped dispose of evidence connected to the crime. The revelation was difficult for her to process, particularly because it involved someone she had trusted and loved. Recalling her reaction, Sheridan said, "I felt like I was gonna be sick. I didn’t know who I was staring at. I didn’t know who he was."

She also remembered asking about Ryan's motive, only to receive an answer that offered little explanation. Dukes reportedly told her, "That's something that only God and Ryan know." It was an astonishing conversation, and one that left Sheridan facing an impossible situation. She could remain loyal to her boyfriend and keep what she had heard to herself, or take the information to investigators and potentially change the direction of an investigation that had stalled for years. As difficult as that decision must have been, she eventually chose the latter.

In February 2017, Sheridan contacted the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and shared what Dukes had allegedly told her. Her decision came after more than 11 years of unanswered questions surrounding Grinstead's disappearance. The information gave investigators another important lead to pursue and helped bring renewed attention to the circumstances surrounding the former teacher's death.

Sheridan later appeared as a witness during Dukes' trial in March 2019. Under oath, she described how his behaviour had changed after he was interviewed by the GBI in 2016. She testified that he experienced panic and anxiety attacks, with one particularly difficult episode leading to the confession she would eventually report.

During that conversation, Dukes allegedly told her that Ryan Duke had entered Grinstead's home and killed her, before admitting that he had helped burn her body. Sheridan's testimony provided the prosecution with an account of what Dukes had privately disclosed to her. It also gave the jury an insight into how information about the case had emerged years after Grinstead was last seen.

The legal outcomes were different for the two men. Bo Dukes was convicted of helping conceal Tara Grinstead's death and sentenced to 25 years in prison. Ryan Duke, meanwhile, was acquitted of murder and the other charges but convicted of concealing Grinstead's death. The distinction is important because neither verdict should be confused with the other, particularly when discussing the complicated legal proceedings surrounding the case.

At Dukes' sentencing, he reportedly apologised to Sheridan. By then, their relationship had become part of a much larger story, one that had brought considerable public attention to her personal life. Sheridan had gone from being his girlfriend to a key prosecution witness, and her testimony placed her in a difficult position that few people could imagine experiencing.

Following the trial, Sheridan largely stepped away from public attention. She had previously spoken about her experience in interviews with 48 Hours and CBS This Morning in 2017, offering viewers an account of the relationship and the events that led her to contact investigators. However, she has made relatively few public appearances since then.

So, what happened to Brooke Sheridan, and where is she now? As of November 2026, there is little reliably established public information about her current whereabouts, career or personal circumstances. She appears to have chosen a quieter life away from the attention surrounding the Tara Grinstead investigation. There have been no widely documented updates establishing what she is doing today, and it would be unfair to fill those gaps with speculation simply because audiences remain curious. Her decision to step away from the spotlight is understandable, particularly after becoming involved in such a widely discussed case.

There is something particularly striking about Sheridan's role in this story. She was not an investigator, journalist or someone with any obvious connection to the criminal justice system. She was simply a woman who discovered that the person she loved had been keeping an extraordinary secret. Reporting him was never going to be an easy decision, especially when doing so meant questioning everything she believed about their relationship.

Yet she chose to put the investigation and Grinstead's family ahead of her personal attachment. That deserves recognition. At the same time, it is worth remembering that speaking up does not automatically make someone comfortable with public attention. Sheridan provided information when it mattered, testified when required and then largely disappeared from view. Perhaps that is the most understandable part of her story: doing the right thing does not mean wanting to become famous for it.

Ultimately, Brooke Sheridan's contribution remains an important part of the Tara Grinstead investigation, even though her life after the trial has largely remained private. Her account helped investigators understand what Dukes had allegedly disclosed behind closed doors, while her testimony became a significant element of the prosecution's case.

The Orchard offers another opportunity to understand how the investigation developed and why Sheridan's decision mattered. But what do you think? Would you have made the same decision if the person confessing was someone you genuinely loved? Share your thoughts, and let us know whether Sheridan's story is the part of the case that surprised you most.
