War Season 1 Episode 7 turns the office into a battlefield of secrets, questionable loyalties and increasingly desperate decisions as both legal teams prepare for their court showdown. While Serena and her colleagues try to identify the mole leaking information to Cathcart’s, Johnny becomes increasingly difficult to trust. He is supposedly working for the right team, but his private arrangements suggest otherwise. With Schill demanding results, Smallwood applying pressure and an increasingly suspicious Nicolas watching from the sidelines, Johnny finds himself juggling far too many lies. And, naturally, he makes things considerably worse by deciding that framing an innocent colleague is a perfectly reasonable career strategy.

The episode opens with Molly and Saeed trying to understand how Cathcart discovered the Ferrari. Johnny is nearby, quietly listening to their conversation before suggesting that the three of them keep the matter between themselves until they establish what actually happened. It sounds like sensible advice, although Johnny's growing collection of secrets makes his sudden interest in confidentiality rather amusing.

Meanwhile, Morgan meets Eric to discuss Ankler's offer to buy the company. For most employees, the proposal represents an opportunity to secure a substantial payday, and they are understandably interested. Morgan, however, refuses to view the situation purely through a financial lens. He does not want to sell the company for moral reasons, a position Eric considers rather pretentious. Their disagreement highlights the growing divide between those who see the offer as a business opportunity and Morgan, who appears to have rather different priorities.

With court approaching, both legal teams decide to bring in experienced investigators to strengthen their positions. Serena's side calls on Budgie, while Cathcart's recruits Prudence, an exceptionally capable investigator with an intimidating professional reputation. She also happens to be something of Budgie's professional arch-enemy, which should make their involvement even more interesting. Apparently, a legal dispute was not complicated enough without adding a personal rivalry between the people doing the investigating.

Johnny, meanwhile, has another problem to worry about. Schill has stopped responding to his messages, leaving him increasingly anxious about where he stands. Rather than addressing the situation directly, Johnny deletes everything from their burner phone and begins working out how to protect himself. It is becoming increasingly clear that his biggest concern is no longer helping his colleagues win the case but making sure he does not become the next person thrown under the bus.

At Molly's request, she contacts Suzie at Cathcart's to confirm the list. However, the conversation raises suspicions, and Molly begins to realise that someone inside Serena's firm may be passing information to the opposition. Suzie also finds the call unusual and alerts Schill. He tells her not to read too much into it, although his response does little to make the situation less suspicious.

Carla faces a different kind of pressure when she asks her lawyers to play fairly. Unfortunately, they are not particularly interested in her preferred approach. Instead, they tell her to prepare her statement and encourage her to be completely honest about anything that could damage Morgan's position. They also want to know whether she is hiding any information that might become relevant during the case. Carla insists everything is fine and refuses to give them anything useful. Her confidence is impressive, although her lawyers clearly have their doubts.

Back at Serena's firm, Molly speaks with Johnny about the suspected mole. He asks her to keep the discovery confidential and subtly suggests that Saeed could be responsible. Molly does not agree with his theory and decides to send Serena an email explaining her concerns.

Johnny stays late at the office, waiting to see how Serena reacts when she reads the message. When she asks how he is settling into the company, he immediately switches into friendly colleague mode, claiming that he loves the workplace and praising the team. He is certainly committed to the performance, even if his actual loyalty is becoming harder to establish.

Serena subsequently meets Nicolas and Bernard to discuss how they should handle the possible leak. Nicolas is more than willing to use the information to damage Cathcart's position, while the others appear more interested in understanding exactly what has happened before making their next move.

Away from the office, Morgan receives a message from Flora and calls her. However, he refuses to listen to what she has to say, offering an apology before ending the conversation. Flora barely gets an opportunity to explain herself, leaving another unresolved issue hanging over Morgan.

Johnny's problems continue at home. Unable to sleep, he starts suggesting that he and Becca should move back to New York. Becca reminds him of the legal trouble he encountered at his previous firm and encourages him to make better decisions this time around. It is a reasonable warning, particularly considering what he has been doing behind everyone's backs.

Johnny then claims he is going downstairs to get some water. Instead, he uses the opportunity to leave Schill a threatening voicemail. His patience has clearly run out, and he wants Schill to understand that he is not prepared to take the blame alone.

Schill responds by bringing the situation to Smallwood's attention. Smallwood initially pretends to have no idea what Schill is talking about, but Schill refuses to accept the act. He eventually threatens him into taking action, making it clear that he expects some form of protection. Schill has been playing this game in the hope of becoming a partner, and the possibility of being pushed out of the firm is something he simply cannot accept.

The following morning, Serena, Bernard and Nicolas meet with Molly to discuss the mole investigation. They agree that the best approach is to avoid creating unnecessary panic and pretend that the firm is conducting routine staff evaluations.

One by one, employees are brought in and asked seemingly harmless questions about their experience at the company. The conversations are deliberately casual, with the team hoping to spot anything unusual in the responses. Most people answer without raising any immediate concerns, but Johnny is the one who tries hardest to redirect the conversation.

He suggests that certain employees are aware of the firm's financial difficulties and may already be exploring opportunities elsewhere. It is a convenient attempt to shift attention away from himself, although his eagerness to introduce another possible explanation is hardly subtle.

By the end of the day, Saeed feels relieved. He believes the questions have cleared his name, and for the moment, he has little reason to suspect that someone is deliberately setting him up. Unfortunately, the investigation is far from over. Johnny quietly continues encouraging suspicion between Molly and Saeed, ensuring that neither becomes too comfortable.

The three colleagues subsequently head out for a beer before returning to work. However, Johnny receives a message from Schill and quickly leaves the bar. The situation takes another turn when he discovers that the message is actually from Smallwood, who wants to meet him.

They arrange to meet at the hospital, where Johnny attempts to record their conversation using the burner phone. Smallwood is already one step ahead, however, and takes the device before Johnny can secure anything useful.

Johnny responds by threatening to bring everyone down with him if they refuse to cooperate. Smallwood eventually agrees to a deal, giving Johnny a way to protect himself while also creating another problem for the opposing team. He wants Johnny to find evidence proving that Carla arranged and paid for the honey trap before the case reaches court.

With a new assignment in hand, Johnny visits Flora, hoping she might provide something useful. Unfortunately, her mother sends him away, explaining that Flora is not there. His next stop is Carla's home, where he manages to convince her to let him look through her messages with Carla.

Johnny is clearly hoping to uncover the evidence Smallwood needs, but the search produces nothing particularly useful. There is no obvious smoking gun, and he has to settle for pretending that his visit was simply an attempt to support her. His latest investigation has gone nowhere, leaving him with a deal to honour and very little to show for it.

Back at the office, Saeed leaves Johnny with his laptop so he can proofread a document. Johnny sees an opportunity and uses the access to create a confession letter pretending to come from Saeed. He then sends it directly to Cathcart's, setting up his colleague as the suspected mole.

What makes the move particularly dangerous is that Nicolas has already started questioning Johnny's behaviour. He is suspicious of him, but Serena steps in to defend his reputation. Her confidence in Johnny gives him some temporary protection, although it also means she is defending someone who is actively working against her own team.

Suzie eventually discovers the letter supposedly written by Saeed and brings it to Schill. Rather than questioning its authenticity, Schill tells her to forward it to Serena's team. The information then becomes another weapon in the ongoing battle between the firms.

Johnny and Schill effectively resume their little spying arrangement, with both men continuing to exchange information while attempting to keep their own involvement hidden. It is an increasingly complicated arrangement, and neither seems particularly interested in considering what might happen if their lies finally catch up with them.

The following morning, both legal teams prepare to head into court. Before the proceedings begin, Saeed is suddenly fired and escorted out of the office. The decision comes as a shock to the team, particularly Molly, who has little reason to believe that her colleague has betrayed them.

Johnny immediately takes advantage of the situation by offering Molly some comfort. He presents himself as the supportive colleague who is equally disappointed by Saeed's supposed betrayal. Meanwhile, Serena and Nicolas reassure the remaining employees that they still have what it takes to win the case.

As everyone prepares to enter court, Johnny makes one final mistake. While comforting Serena, he casually mentions a particular quote that Schill regularly uses. The moment passes, but Johnny quickly realises what he has done. He has unintentionally revealed a detail that connects him to the very person he has been secretly working with.

It is a small slip, but potentially a disastrous one. After spending the entire episode carefully manipulating conversations, planting evidence and shifting suspicion towards other people, Johnny may finally have exposed himself through a single careless remark.

War Season 1 Episode 7 Opinion and Review

Episode 7 is one of the more entertaining instalments of War because it understands that a legal battle does not need constant courtroom drama to remain compelling. The real action happens in offices, private conversations and increasingly uncomfortable meetings where almost everyone seems to have something to hide. Johnny is easily the episode's most interesting character, although his confidence in managing multiple lies is beginning to look rather misplaced. His decision to frame Saeed is particularly frustrating, especially when Serena continues defending him without knowing the full picture.

Morgan's disagreement over Ankler's offer also adds an interesting contrast to the corporate manoeuvring, giving the episode something beyond the usual office politics. The investigation involving Budgie and Prudence is another welcome addition, even if their rivalry deserves more attention. The final courtroom moment is a clever way to build anticipation without relying on an unnecessarily dramatic reveal. Overall, a strong episode with plenty of tension, sharp dialogue and questionable decisions.

Johnny's situation is now becoming increasingly difficult to manage, and his final slip could give Nicolas exactly the reason he needs to investigate him properly. Meanwhile, Saeed has been removed from the firm, Molly has been left questioning the people around her, and Serena may be placing her trust in the wrong person.

The next episode should have plenty to explore as both teams finally face each other in court. Will Johnny manage to escape suspicion, or has he finally made one mistake too many? And is Saeed really finished, or will the truth eventually come out? Let us know what you think about Johnny's increasingly reckless behaviour and whether Serena should have trusted her instincts earlier.
