Final Table Episode 4 recap and review.

Final Table Episode 4 brings the competition closer while exposing the personal history behind the rivalry between Kang-han and Woo-jin. With Famiglia officially entering the contest, the pressure is mounting, old disagreements are returning and Song-yi has a rather unusual problem standing between her and the kitchen. Apparently, becoming a professional chef is difficult enough without having to negotiate with a ghost who apparently has strong opinions about fire safety.

The episode opens with Kang-han returning to Famiglia alongside Song-yi to prepare for the upcoming competition. While the restaurant begins putting together its team, Woo-jin appears on an interview programme discussing the state of Korean fine dining. However, when asked whether he intends to participate in the competition, he carefully avoids giving a direct answer. It is a familiar public-relations trick, although his silence does little to hide the possibility that something bigger is coming.

Song-yi wastes no time updating Jung-won through a text message, confirming that she has successfully persuaded Kang-han to participate. However, the excitement quickly gives way to confusion when Kang-han, Du-young and Song-yi sit down to examine the competition rules. The format is not particularly straightforward. Participants will receive a keyword connected to the cooking theme one week before the challenge, leaving them with limited time to develop their ideas and prepare their dishes. In other words, improvisation will be just as important as technical ability.

Meanwhile, Famiglia welcomes a new cook named Gun-woo, whose background bears a striking resemblance to Kang-han's. Rather than immediately assigning everyone their positions, Kang-han decides to test the newcomers.

After arranging a competition between Du-young and Gun-woo, he chooses Du-young as his sous chef, while Gun-woo takes responsibility for the garde-manger station. It is a practical decision, although the kitchen is already beginning to look like a place where everybody has something to prove.

Kang-han then approaches Song-yi about joining the team as a commis. Unfortunately, she refuses almost immediately, claiming that she is allergic to tap water. It is an excuse that sounds increasingly suspicious, and Kang-han is not particularly convinced either. He can clearly tell that she is hiding something, but rather than forcing her into the kitchen, he offers to teach her the basics and help her become more comfortable with the work.

As Kang-han settles into his new position at Famiglia, he begins questioning whether returning to the restaurant was the right decision. Nevertheless, he has already made plans for the competition's prize money. Part of the winnings will go towards paying the penalty for failing to move to the United States as previously expected. Song-yi, meanwhile, worries that Kang-han is becoming too confident before the competition has even started. She knows that determination is useful, but confidence without a realistic assessment of the opposition can become an expensive mistake.

Over at Pyeongyeon, Jung-won meets Hae-sun to discuss the upcoming competition and Famiglia's unexpected participation. Hae-sun is visibly surprised by the news, particularly because the restaurant now has a new head chef. Jung-won explains that Song-yi has agreed to drop the lawsuit provided Famiglia is allowed to enter the competition. It is an arrangement that could make things considerably more complicated for everyone involved.

Their conversation is interrupted by Hyun-joo, who confronts Jung-won for making decisions without going through her first. Her reaction reveals just how uncomfortable she is with losing control over important matters. However, her attempt to reprimand Jung-won does not last long. Hae-sun steps in and explains that she was the one who personally invited Jung-won to the meeting. Suddenly, Hyun-joo has very little room to continue her complaint.

Still, she does not intend to leave the matter alone. Later, she asks her assistant, Mr Jeon, to investigate Famiglia's new head chef. Clearly, Kang-han's arrival has attracted more attention than he might have expected, and not everyone at Pyeongyeon is particularly pleased about it.

Elsewhere, Michael Jang is dealing with his own uncomfortable situation at Exceptional. Young-soo continues making an extra effort to attract Woo-jin's attention, leaving Michael increasingly insecure about his position. The situation is hardly helped by the fact that Woo-jin has more important matters occupying his time. He and his team are preparing to welcome Henri, Hae-sun and several other distinguished guests to the restaurant.

During dinner, Woo-jin discovers that Kang-han will be competing in the upcoming event. The news clearly catches his attention, and he later decides to visit Famiglia. There, he comes face to face with Kang-han, setting up one of the episode's most important confrontations.

Their conversation reveals that Kang-han and Woo-jin share a much more complicated history than the earlier episodes suggested. Kang-han partly blames Woo-jin for what happened to his father and believes he should be held accountable. Rather than keeping his feelings hidden, he openly taunts Woo-jin, reminding him that he has already lost to him once before. The exchange makes it clear that this competition is not simply about culinary recognition or prize money. For Kang-han, there is unfinished business that goes well beyond the kitchen.

The following day, Woo-jin meets Jung-won and announces that he will participate in the competition after all. His decision changes the atmosphere considerably, especially now that Kang-han has already entered. What initially looked like a straightforward professional contest is quickly becoming a personal showdown between two chefs with plenty of history to settle.

Back at Famiglia, Du-young finally explains why Song-yi refuses to work in the kitchen. According to what they believe, she has been haunted by a ghost with an unusual attachment to fire. Ever since childhood, accidents have reportedly occurred whenever she enters a kitchen. It is an unusual explanation, to say the least, but it helps make sense of her repeated attempts to avoid cooking duties.

Determined to deal with the problem, Song-yi postpones her practice session and visits a shaman. The meeting does not exactly go as planned. The shaman quickly realises that she cannot afford to pay for a proper cleansing ritual, so he offers her a talisman that is supposed to weaken the ghost temporarily. Song-yi, in return, gives him several restaurant vouchers. It is hardly the most conventional business transaction, but at least both parties appear willing to make the arrangement work.

With that matter supposedly settled, Famiglia finally gets down to serious preparation. Kang-han begins teaching the team the fundamentals, making sure everyone understands the basics before the competition begins. Meanwhile, the other participants arrive in the country, prompting Pyeongyeon to accelerate its preparations. Jung-won has plenty to organise, and the event is quickly moving from planning to reality.

After signing their competition contracts, Kang-han and Song-yi receive additional information from Jung-won. She provides them with details about the participating chefs, alongside the relevant documents outlining the competition. The team now has a clearer idea of what awaits them, although knowing the rules and actually winning are two very different things.

Finally, the first day of the competition arrives. The participants gather to meet the judges and members of the organising team, marking the official beginning of the event. Among those present are Kang-han and Hae-sun, who immediately recognise one another.

For Kang-han, seeing Hae-sun brings back painful memories of his father's death in a fire. He believes she played a role in what happened and makes it clear that he intends to hold her accountable. The episode closes with his determination to make Hae-sun pay for her part in his father's death, giving the competition a far more personal dimension than anyone might have anticipated.

Final Table Episode 4 Review and Opinion

Episode 4 does a solid job of turning the upcoming cooking competition into something considerably more interesting than a standard battle between talented chefs. Kang-han's return to Famiglia gives the restaurant a fresh direction, while Woo-jin's decision to participate introduces the kind of rivalry that can carry an entire series. The biggest strength here is the gradual revelation of their shared history, particularly the connection involving Kang-han's father. It gives his determination a clear emotional foundation without explaining absolutely everything at once.

Song-yi's storyline provides some lighter moments, although the ghost and shaman subplot feels rather unusual alongside the more serious restaurant politics. Still, it adds personality to the episode and gives her character another obstacle to overcome. Hyun-joo's insecurity is also becoming increasingly obvious, making the internal power struggles at Pyeongyeon worth watching. Overall, this is an entertaining build-up episode that balances humour, professional ambition and personal conflict. The real test will be whether the competition delivers on all this preparation.

With the participants finally assembled and the first day underway, Final Table appears ready to move into its most competitive chapter yet. Kang-han has unfinished business with both Woo-jin and Hae-sun, while Famiglia must prove that its new team deserves a place among the country's finest chefs.

The bigger question is whether Kang-han can keep his personal feelings from interfering with his performance when the pressure becomes intense. What did you think of Episode 4, particularly the revelations about his father's death and Song-yi's unusual fear of the kitchen? Share your thoughts and predictions about which chef has the strongest chance of winning.
