If Love of Your Life (2026) left you wanting another film about sudden romance, devastating loss, running away from everything you know and eventually finding your way back to yourself, there is plenty to watch next. Rachel Morrison’s romantic drama moves from Boston to Lisbon, London and Tokyo as Maya tries to rebuild a life after losing Charlie, so the closest comparisons are not simply films about falling in love.

They are stories about grief, reinvention, complicated second chances, emotional recovery and the slightly inconvenient truth that changing your postcode does not necessarily fix what is happening inside your head.

Movies Like Love of Your Life

1. P.S. I Love You (2007)

P.S. I Love You is probably one of the closest emotional matches for Love of Your Life. Hilary Swank plays Holly, a woman trying to cope with the death of her husband Gerry, played by Gerard Butler. After his death, she receives a series of messages he arranged before he died, gradually pushing her towards rebuilding her life.

Like Maya, Holly is forced to confront the strange reality of becoming someone different after losing the person who shaped her everyday existence. Both films understand that grief does not politely disappear because the calendar says enough time has passed. There is romance, travel, friendship and plenty of emotional damage along the way, although P.S. I Love You occasionally reaches for the tissues with both hands.

2. One Day (2011)

One Day follows Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew across many years as their friendship repeatedly threatens to become something more. The film moves through different stages of their lives, allowing romance, missed opportunities, personal setbacks and tragedy to accumulate over time.

That long-term structure makes it a strong companion to Love of Your Life, which also spans years rather than treating romance as something that begins and ends within a neat cinematic weekend. Both stories are interested in how people change, what they carry from earlier relationships and how quickly life can completely rewrite someone's plans. It is romantic, melancholy and occasionally infuriating in exactly the way complicated relationships tend to be.

3. The Time Traveler's Wife (2009)

The Time Traveler's Wife centres on Henry and Clare, whose relationship is complicated by Henry's uncontrollable time travel. Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana play a couple attempting to build an ordinary marriage around a decidedly unordinary problem.

While Love of Your Life is grounded in grief and real-world upheaval rather than science fiction, the emotional similarity is clear. Both films ask what happens when love exists alongside circumstances neither person can control. Maya and Clare also face the painful reality that loving someone does not guarantee that life will allow the relationship to remain simple. At least Henry has time travel as an excuse; most of us just blame bad timing.

4. Me Before You (2016)

Me Before You follows Louisa Clark, a young woman who becomes a carer for Will Traynor and gradually develops a powerful emotional connection with him. Their relationship changes both characters and forces Louisa to reconsider what she wants from her own life.

The connection with Love of Your Life lies in its focus on love becoming a catalyst for personal transformation. Maya's relationship with Charlie changes the direction of her life, while her loss eventually forces her to reconsider what that life should look like without him. Both films also resist the idea that love alone can solve everything. Sometimes a relationship changes you precisely because it leaves you with difficult questions afterwards.

5. The Vow (2012)

The Vow follows Paige and Leo, a married couple whose lives are shattered when Paige loses her memory after an accident. Leo then has to rebuild their relationship almost from scratch.

It is a different kind of emotional crisis from Maya's in Love of Your Life, but the underlying question is remarkably similar: what remains of a relationship when the life you thought you had suddenly disappears? Both films examine identity, commitment and the painful process of accepting that moving forward may require rebuilding yourself as well as your relationship with someone else.

6. Under the Tuscan Sun (2003)

Under the Tuscan Sun is less tragic and considerably more interested in property renovation, food and the dangerous idea that buying an enormous house in Italy might solve your problems. Diane Lane plays Frances, a writer whose marriage collapses and who impulsively buys a villa in Tuscany.

Its connection to Love of Your Life comes through the idea of escape and reinvention. Maya travels across several countries after Charlie's death, hoping distance will give her enough space to recover. Frances similarly changes her surroundings in search of a new beginning. Both stories eventually reach the same conclusion: a new place can help you start again, but it cannot do all the emotional work for you.

7. Eat Pray Love (2010)

Eat Pray Love follows Liz Gilbert as she leaves her old life behind and travels through Italy, India and Indonesia after a personal crisis. Along the way, she explores pleasure, spirituality, identity and eventually the possibility of love again.

That international journey makes it particularly relevant to Love of Your Life. Maya becomes a digital nomad, moving between Lisbon, London and Tokyo while trying to outrun her grief. Liz is also attempting to rediscover herself through movement and new experiences. The difference is that Maya's journey is shaped by devastating bereavement, while Liz's begins with a broader personal reckoning. Either way, both films make one point rather convincingly: sometimes the hardest destination is simply becoming comfortable with yourself.

8. The Last Letter from Your Lover (2021)

The Last Letter from Your Lover moves between two periods as a journalist discovers a collection of secret love letters and becomes fascinated by the relationship behind them. The story explores forbidden romance, lost opportunities and feelings that survive long after circumstances have changed.

Like Love of Your Life, it treats love as something capable of stretching across time and reshaping people's lives long after the original relationship has ended. The film also has that bittersweet quality where the past refuses to stay where it belongs. Maya's memories of Charlie similarly remain part of her even when she has physically travelled thousands of miles away.

9. We Live in Time (2024)

We Live in Time stars Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield as Almut and Tobias, a couple whose relationship is tested by a devastating diagnosis. Rather than telling their story in straightforward chronological order, the film jumps through different moments in their lives together.

Its strongest connection with Love of Your Life is the way it treats love, time and mortality as inseparable. Both films understand that the meaning of a relationship can change dramatically when the future suddenly becomes uncertain. There is romance, humour and ordinary domestic life alongside much heavier emotional territory, making the story feel less like a conventional love story and more like an examination of what people leave behind in each other's lives.

10. Someone Great (2019)

Someone Great follows Jenny after the end of a long-term relationship forces her to rethink the future she had carefully imagined. Instead of immediately finding another great romance, she spends time with her closest friends and begins rebuilding her sense of identity.

That makes it a lighter but useful companion to Love of Your Life. Maya's recovery eventually becomes less about finding another person and more about learning how to live with herself again. Jenny goes through a similar process after losing the relationship she expected to define her future. There is considerably more dancing and considerably less existential grief, which may be exactly what you need after Maya's emotional marathon.

11. Past Lives (2023)

Past Lives follows Nora and Hae Sung, childhood friends whose lives diverge before they reconnect years later as adults. Their relationship becomes a quiet exploration of love, timing, distance and the lives people might have lived.

It mirrors Love of Your Life through its interest in the roads people take and the emotional weight of the lives they leave behind. Maya physically crosses borders after Charlie's death, while Nora and Hae Sung are separated by geography, circumstance and time. Neither film treats love as a simple question of whether two people end up together. Sometimes the more interesting question is what that connection teaches them about themselves.

12. The Photograph (2020)

The Photograph centres on Mae, who begins investigating her late mother's hidden past and becomes romantically involved with journalist Michael. The story moves between generations while examining family secrets, love and the ways people carry the past.

Its connection to Love of Your Life comes through the idea that understanding the past is necessary before someone can properly move forward. Maya eventually has to return home and face the people and relationships she abandoned after Charlie's death. Mae similarly has to confront a past she did not fully understand. Both films give romance an emotional purpose beyond simply pairing two attractive people together.

13. The Light Between Oceans (2016)

The Light Between Oceans follows Tom and Isabel, a married couple living in isolation on a remote Australian island whose lives change after they discover a baby at sea.

This is a much heavier and more morally complicated story, but it shares Love of Your Life's fascination with love, grief and the consequences of trying to survive an unbearable emotional situation. The characters make choices because they desperately want to protect the life they have built, only to discover that those decisions can reshape everything around them. It is romantic drama with considerably fewer easy answers.

14. Our Souls at Night (2017)

Our Souls at Night stars Robert Redford and Jane Fonda as two older neighbours who begin spending nights together after both have experienced loneliness and loss. What starts as a practical arrangement develops into genuine companionship.

Its similarities with Love of Your Life are quieter but important. Both films understand loneliness as something different from simply being alone. Maya surrounds herself with new cities and experiences but remains emotionally isolated. Redford and Fonda's characters discover that another person can help reopen a part of life they had quietly shut away. It is proof that a second chance does not need to arrive with fireworks. Sometimes it knocks on the neighbour's door.

15. Begin Again (2013)

Begin Again follows a songwriter and a disgraced music producer who meet in New York and begin working together after both have reached personal crossroads. Their relationship becomes less about conventional romance and more about helping one another rediscover confidence.

That makes it a strong choice for anyone who liked the self-recovery side of Love of Your Life. Maya eventually understands that healing cannot depend entirely on finding another romantic partner. Begin Again makes a similar argument through music and friendship: sometimes another person enters your life not to become your forever partner, but to help you become yourself again.

16. The Holiday (2006)

The Holiday follows two women who swap homes between England and Los Angeles after difficult romantic experiences. Both expect a temporary escape and instead find new relationships and new perspectives.

It shares the travel-and-reinvention element of Love of Your Life while keeping the emotional temperature considerably warmer. Maya moves between countries because she cannot face the memories waiting at home. The characters in The Holiday also leave familiar surroundings to escape emotional problems. The difference is that nobody needs a therapist after every other scene, which makes this one considerably easier viewing.

17. The Broken Hearts Gallery (2020)

The Broken Hearts Gallery follows Lucy, a young woman who starts collecting objects connected to failed relationships after a painful breakup. She eventually turns the idea into a gallery dedicated to people's romantic memories.

The film connects with Love of Your Life through its focus on what people do with memories after relationships end. Maya cannot simply erase Charlie from her life, so her journey becomes about finding a way to remember him without remaining trapped in the past. Lucy's approach is far more cheerful, but both stories argue that memories do not necessarily need to be destroyed before someone can move forward.

18. Sweet November (2001)

Sweet November follows Nelson and Sara, two strangers who become involved in an unconventional relationship after Sara invites Nelson to spend a month living with her. Their connection gradually transforms his priorities and his understanding of life.

Like Love of Your Life, the film builds its emotional impact around a relationship that changes someone profoundly within a relatively short period. Maya and Charlie's whirlwind romance similarly alters the direction of her entire existence. The films ask whether the length of a relationship determines its importance. Clearly, it does not. A few months can apparently cause more emotional paperwork than a decade-long relationship.

19. Life Itself (2018)

Life Itself is a sprawling romantic drama that follows several interconnected characters and relationships across different generations and locations. Love, family, loss and the unpredictable consequences of individual decisions gradually connect the stories.

Its relationship with Love of Your Life is especially strong in the way both films look beyond one romance to examine how a single relationship can affect an entire life. Maya's relationship with Charlie changes her future, her friendships and her relationship with his family. Life Itself takes that idea and expands it across generations, showing how individual choices can continue echoing long after the people who made them have moved on.

20. The Age of Adaline (2015)

The Age of Adaline follows a woman who mysteriously stops ageing and spends decades keeping her distance from other people. When she finally allows herself to become emotionally involved again, her carefully controlled existence begins to unravel.

Although its supernatural premise separates it from Love of Your Life, the emotional foundation is surprisingly similar. Adaline has spent years protecting herself from attachment because she knows how painful loss can be. Maya also becomes emotionally closed off after Charlie's death. Both stories eventually ask whether avoiding pain is worth the cost of avoiding life itself.

21. The Map of Tiny Perfect Things (2021)

The Map of Tiny Perfect Things follows two teenagers trapped in a repeating day who begin noticing the small details around them and develop a relationship in the process.

It is the lightest choice on this list, but it shares an important idea with Love of Your Life: a meaningful life is built from individual moments rather than one perfect destination. Maya spends years travelling because she believes a different place might help her find peace. Eventually, she has to recognise the value of ordinary life itself. This film reaches a similar idea through time-loop romance, only with considerably more optimism and fewer emotional breakdowns.

For me, the strongest films to watch immediately after Love of Your Life are P.S. I Love You, One Day, We Live in Time, Under the Tuscan Sun and Past Lives. They capture different pieces of what makes Maya's story work: losing someone, carrying memories, travelling in search of a reset, finding unexpected companionship and learning that moving forward does not mean forgetting what came before.

What I like about this group is that none of them treats romance as a magic eraser. Some are heartbreaking, some are warmer and a few are deliberately funny, but they all understand that the real story begins when the romance changes or ends. If Love of Your Life hit the right emotional nerve for you, which of these 21 would you put at the top of your watchlist?
