Best Medicine Season 2 Episode 3 Recap & Review.

Best Medicine Season 2 Episode 3 turns a small-town pharmacy robbery into a surprisingly messy medical mystery, with Martin forced to confront his blood phobia while racing to recover Louisa’s fertility medication. Meanwhile, Gina’s arrival sends George and Greg into a ridiculous restaurant rivalry, Elaine is trying to survive a painful UTI without admitting she needs help, and a string of thefts eventually points Martin towards someone suffering from a serious injury.

The episode begins with a robbery at the pharmacy, although the thief clearly has a rather odd shopping list. Morphine, gauze pads and male diapers disappear, but the culprit leaves the money behind. The bigger problem is that Louisa’s fertility medication has also been taken, leaving Martin, Mark and the others with only 36 hours to recover it before she misses the crucial window for her egg retrieval.

Their first suspect is Old Man Collins, but that theory falls apart almost immediately. He did take the male diapers, yet he paid for them and had nothing to do with the missing drugs. Frankly, compared with everyone else in this episode, he is practically a model citizen.

At the clinic, Martin is still dealing with the fallout from the blood-phobia prank. Aunt Sarah is disappointed that he told Elaine about his condition before telling her, but she decides to make an effort with Eden and invites her to lunch. It is a generous gesture, although anyone familiar with Port Wein should probably know that a peaceful lunch is rarely allowed to remain peaceful for long.

Martin soon gets called to the restaurant because Elaine claims there is an emergency. Instead, he discovers that the whole thing is a joke designed to tease him about his fear of blood. Martin and Eden are understandably unimpressed. Bret later apologises, but the incident leaves Martin feeling like he is still an outsider in the community.

Things become even stranger when Sall tells Martin about another theft, this time at the restaurant. Alcohol and mosquito spray are stolen, prompting George and Greg to immediately point the finger at Gina, their new business rival. Martin is less interested in the obvious suspect and starts looking at the bigger picture, suspecting that the pharmacy and restaurant robberies may have been committed by the same person.

The restaurant rivalry itself is becoming increasingly absurd. Gina has opened a pizza food truck directly outside George and Greg’s restaurant and starts pulling customers away from them. George and Greg feel betrayed, while Elaine tries to support them despite having her own problem. She is suffering from a severe UTI and is drinking cranberry juice with the determination of someone who has decided the supermarket aisle is a substitute for a doctor.

Gina then offers Elaine $1,500 to appear in an advert for her business. Elaine discusses the offer with Al, and they decide they cannot afford to reject the money. Unfortunately, Elaine becomes so unwell that she can barely stand, making the promotional deal rather difficult to pull off. Her body, apparently, has chosen a very inconvenient moment to have opinions.

That night, Martin explains his theory to Eden. He believes the robberies are connected and that whoever is stealing the supplies may be trying to treat someone who has been seriously injured. The conversation also exposes Martin's uncertainty about his future. Eden brings up the possibility of returning to Boston, but Martin seems conflicted when she talks about spending that time with him.

Before they can get much further, someone breaks into Martin and Eden’s home and steals a pair of forceps. That finally gives Martin the clue he needs. The thief is not simply stealing random medical equipment. Someone appears to be collecting whatever they need to treat a gunshot victim.

The next day, the mystery takes another bizarre turn when Greg storms in claiming Gina is a killer. He says he overheard her repeatedly saying that she shot someone. Martin, however, remains sceptical. Rather than accepting the accusation at face value, he begins examining why Gina would say something like that in the first place.

Martin’s medical instincts eventually uncover the explanation. When he talks to Gina, he notices that she keeps repeating words and phrases she has heard from other people. He helps her settle down and diagnoses her with Tourette syndrome triggered by stress. Gina has been dealing with significant family problems, and the feud with George and Greg has only made the pressure worse. Her repeated comments about a shooting were not an admission of guilt.

The clue still matters, though. Gina had heard about a gunshot somewhere in the area, allowing Louisa to work out where the injured person might be. Martin, Louisa and Mark head into the woods to investigate, while the restaurant rivalry continues in their absence.

George decides to fight Gina's pizza truck with Brooklyn hot dogs, turning the dispute into an increasingly ridiculous food battle. Rather than winning customers through superior food, the two sides essentially start giving everything away. The customers, naturally, are delighted. If every restaurant feud ended with free lunch, perhaps more businesses should consider this business model.

Aunt Sarah's lunch with Eden is considerably more uncomfortable. Things begin well until Eden mentions Martin possibly returning to Boston. Sarah then drops the bombshell that Martin and Louisa once shared a romantic kiss that practically everyone in town already knew about. Eden is clearly not thrilled to receive this particular piece of Port Wein gossip over lunch.

Out in the woods, Mark eventually leaves Martin and Louisa alone. Louisa encourages Martin to reconsider the prank and see it as evidence that the community may actually be accepting him. He begins to realise that he may have interpreted the whole incident more negatively than necessary. It is one of the quieter moments in the episode, but it gives Martin a useful shift in perspective.

They eventually find the injured person and discover that the situation is not quite the criminal drama everyone expected. A teenage boy has accidentally shot himself after sneaking into one of his parents' cabins with his girlfriend. He wanted to impress her, because apparently teenage decision-making remains undefeated.

The girl tried to treat him using information from TikTok and the internet, only to make the injury considerably worse by puncturing his lung. Martin now has no choice but to deal directly with the thing he has been avoiding throughout the episode: blood.

With Eden and Louisa encouraging him, Martin pushes through his blood phobia and treats the injured teenager while they wait for the helicopter. It is a major moment for his character because he does not magically stop being afraid. Instead, he manages to act despite the fear because someone needs his help.

While they wait, Louisa has a panic attack over whether she should continue with her fertility journey. Martin helps calm her down and administers the necessary injection. The timing is particularly important because the medication they have been desperately trying to recover is what allows Louisa to continue the process.

There is also an awkward little romantic complication. The injured teenager's girlfriend assumes that Martin and Louisa are a couple and calls them adorable. Louisa does not seem particularly bothered, but Eden definitely does not enjoy hearing it. The episode continues to keep Martin's personal life just messy enough to create problems without turning it into a full-blown soap opera.

Back in town, George and Greg help Gina pack up and move her business to a new location, suggesting that their feud may finally be cooling down. Elian also supports Eden after Aunt Sarah tells everyone about the lunch. Sarah, meanwhile, is still determined that Martin should stay in Port Wein, regardless of what Martin himself eventually decides.

The episode ends on a much lighter note. Martin decides that if the town is going to prank him, he can return the favour. He leaves a fake snake in Bert's car, knowing full well that Bert is terrified of snakes. It is a petty little revenge prank, but after everything Martin has endured, he has arguably earned the right to have some fun.

My take on the episode is that it works because the medical mystery never completely overwhelms the character drama. The robbery gives Martin something concrete to investigate, but the real story is about how he handles fear, acceptance and the possibility of leaving Port Wein. Gina's storyline is also a clever misdirection because the episode initially makes her look suspicious before revealing a much more personal reason for her strange behaviour.

The restaurant feud, meanwhile, is pure small-town chaos, and the free-food battle is exactly the sort of ridiculous subplot that keeps the episode from becoming too heavy. Louisa's fertility storyline adds genuine emotional weight, while Eden's reaction to Martin and Louisa being mistaken for a couple quietly sets up another relationship complication. And then there is the snake prank, because apparently Martin's personal growth does not mean he has to become boring.

Overall, Best Medicine Season 2 Episode 3 mixes a medical emergency, a robbery mystery, relationship tension and some deliberately silly comedy without losing Martin's character arc. The biggest breakthrough is not catching a thief but watching Martin confront the fear that has been holding him back. With Eden questioning where she stands, Louisa facing another major fertility decision and Aunt Sarah refusing to abandon the idea of Martin staying in Port Wein, there is plenty left to unravel. What did you make of Martin's decision at the end, and do you think Eden should be worried about Louisa?
