Many of the students' off-campus moments were filmed around Westwood Village, one of Los Angeles' most iconic neighbourhoods. The district's timeless architecture and lively streets helped recreate the fashionable Southern California atmosphere that defines the series. Walking through Westwood today, fans will recognise the familiar streets that framed conversations, friendships and growing suspicions throughout the drama.
A particularly impressive transformation took place around the Westwood Village Cinema District. Production designers completely reworked parts of the area with vintage cinema marquees, classic vehicles and period shopfronts to recreate the look of early 1980s Los Angeles.
Modern audiences rarely notice just how much work goes into making the present disappear, which is probably the highest compliment any production designer could receive.

Luxury plays an equally important role throughout the series, making The Azria Estate, also known as Maison du Soleil in Holmby Hills, an ideal choice. The grand mansion represents the extravagant lifestyle enjoyed by Bret and his wealthy social circle.
Lavish parties, poolside gatherings and sprawling gardens reinforce the illusion that these teenagers live in a world where consequences simply do not exist. Naturally, television has a habit of proving that assumption spectacularly wrong.
Several residential scenes were also filmed throughout Bel-Air and Beverly Hills, where tree-lined streets, impressive gates and secluded driveways provide the perfect setting for the growing tension surrounding the mysterious events. The peaceful appearance of these neighbourhoods creates an effective contrast with the psychological uncertainty unfolding beneath the surface.
Shopping culture from the early 1980s comes alive inside South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach. Rather than using the modern Sherman Oaks Galleria, which has changed significantly over the decades, the production team completely redesigned South Bay Galleria to resemble the famous shopping destination of the period.

Storefronts, signage and interiors were carefully reworked to immerse viewers in the era. It is one of those clever television tricks that looks effortless on screen but probably gave the art department several sleepless nights.
Some of the series' most visually striking sequences were captured along the Pacific Coast Highway, where sweeping coastal roads meet dramatic ocean views beneath the Santa Monica Mountains.
Fast cars, endless sunshine and open highways perfectly reflect the glamorous image of Southern California before the darker elements of the story slowly begin closing in. Even without dialogue, these scenes carry plenty of atmosphere.
