Unfortunately, wanting another season and actually getting one are two very different things.
The Sky Atlantic drama quickly became one of the year's most talked-about limited series thanks to its haunting mix of supernatural horror, psychological tension and historical storytelling.
Rather than relying on familiar ghost story clichés, Possession used its chilling mystery to explore the lasting impact of colonialism, generational trauma and buried family secrets. It was never designed as easy weekend viewing, but that was exactly why so many viewers became invested.
The finale delivered answers to the mystery surrounding Claudia, Hope Hill and the terrifying legacy tied to the plantation estate. While the main story reached a satisfying conclusion, the closing moments also left audiences wondering whether the show's unsettling supernatural world could continue beyond Jamaica. It felt less like the door had been slammed shut and more like someone quietly forgot to lock it.
That has naturally sparked fresh debate over a possible second season. Across fan discussions, many viewers believe the series created a world with far more stories left to tell.
Others argue the ending worked precisely because it stopped where it did, proving that sometimes leaving audiences wanting more is better than stretching a story until even the ghosts decide to move out.
So, has Possession been renewed for Season 2? The answer, at least for now, is no. At the time of writing, Sky Atlantic has not announced a second season of Possession.

Another possibility would involve keeping Claudia at the centre of the story. Having survived her terrifying experience, she could find herself investigating unusual legal disputes involving supposedly haunted properties, disputed inheritances or historically significant artefacts linked to restless spirits.
Her legal expertise combined with her newfound understanding of the supernatural could create a distinctive ongoing format unlike most television horror dramas.
If the series followed that route, viewers could expect each new case to uncover another hidden chapter of history where unresolved injustice literally refuses to stay buried.
Rather than simply chasing ghosts, Claudia would confront the painful legacies they represent, allowing the drama to continue blending psychological horror with thoughtful historical storytelling.
Whatever direction the writers chose, the tone would almost certainly remain the same. Atmospheric dread, disturbing visions and emotionally charged supernatural encounters would continue to sit alongside sharp commentary about history, identity and accountability. The horror would still serve a purpose beyond frightening audiences, which is exactly what helped Possession stand out from more conventional ghost stories.
As for the cast, there are no official plans because there is no confirmed second season. Should the series unexpectedly return, two paths appear most likely. The anthology approach would introduce an entirely new ensemble cast, with Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jonny Lee Miller and the rest of the original actors either stepping away completely or returning as different characters.
Alternatively, a direct sequel could see Gugu Mbatha-Raw reprise her role as Claudia, while most supporting characters from the first story remain part of its completed chapter.
The release schedule would also depend entirely on whether Sky Atlantic decides to revisit the project. Since no renewal exists, there is no production timetable.
If development somehow began in the near future, industry timelines suggest the earliest realistic release would likely fall in late 2027 or early 2028, allowing time for new scripts, filming and extensive post-production work required for a visually ambitious supernatural drama.
For now, though, the reality remains straightforward. Possession has not been renewed for Season 2, and everything points to the series remaining exactly what it was always intended to be: a powerful standalone limited drama. That does not mean the possibility is permanently closed, but it does mean fans should manage expectations rather than start counting ghosts before they appear.
