Moria on Netflix: Who Was Luis Vidala and What Happened After His Relationship With Moria Casán?

Netflix’s Moria brings one of Argentina’s most recognisable entertainment figures to the screen, and among the relationships explored in the eight-part series is her long-running romance with Luis Vidala. The character is based on a real person from Moria Casán’s past, whose relationship with the star lasted for years and became a major chapter in both their personal and professional lives. But while the series spends plenty of time on their romance, it leaves one obvious question hanging: what happened to Luis after they went their separate ways?

Luis Vidala was a real Argentine figure who became widely known through his relationship with Moria Casán, despite having no initial connection to the entertainment world. Before their relationship attracted public attention in the 1990s, Luis worked at a mechanic shop.

His life changed considerably once his romance with Moria became a media talking point, pushing him into a level of public attention that was rather different from anything a normal day at a garage could prepare someone for.

At the time, Moria was already a mother to Sofía, whom she had with her former partner Mario Castiglione, while Luis had a daughter, Ingrid, from an earlier relationship. Their romance subsequently became more than just a celebrity relationship, as Luis and Moria also worked together on a number of professional projects during their time as a couple.

For roughly a decade, their lives were closely intertwined, with their relationship unfolding under the unusually bright spotlight that followed Moria everywhere. Their relationship eventually ended in 2001, after claims that both had been unfaithful to one another.

The split was reportedly far from friendly, and Luis later spoke openly about his own actions. The fallout did not disappear simply because the relationship did. According to Luis, legal proceedings connected to the dispute continued for years, turning what might otherwise have been an ordinary celebrity breakup into an exceptionally long chapter of unfinished business.

In a 2014 interview with La Nación, Luis reportedly said the legal dispute had continued for 11 years, describing the situation as pointless and expressing hope that it would finally come to an end.

Moria also reportedly took legal action against him and sought restrictions on his public comments about her. It was hardly the tidy post-breakup arrangement one might expect from two people who had once spent years building a life and career together.

After his separation from Moria, Luis Vidala eventually found love again with Noelia, with whom he had a son named Ramiro. His later life was considerably less centred on Moria, although his previous relationship continued to be the reason many people recognised him. He also attempted to maintain a place in the entertainment world, appearing on Argentina’s Celebrity Big Brother in 2007.

His time on the reality programme was cut short because of health concerns, and the appearance became his final major television role. Luis later tried to return to live entertainment through the theatre production Fiestísima, which was planned for Mar del Plata in 2014.

The project ran into problems when a key performer left, leaving Luis attempting to keep the production moving by putting his own money into it. Despite those efforts, the production eventually collapsed, prompting another change of direction.

Rather than continuing to chase opportunities in television and theatre, Luis eventually moved into other work. He briefly operated a car wash before settling on a bakery business in 2016, opening a franchise called Panaderías del Pueblo in Buenos Aires’ Flores neighbourhood.

It was a much quieter chapter than his years alongside Moria, and perhaps that was exactly the point. After spending so much of his life being recognised because of someone else, building something away from the cameras offered a different kind of stability.

Luis also remained connected to basketball and was a longtime player at ICD Pedro Echagüe, where his connection to the sporting community gave him another part of his identity beyond his former relationship.

Yet the association with Moria never completely disappeared. People still recognised him, approached him and asked for photographs, and he was reportedly polite and accommodating despite preferring a quieter existence after years in the public eye.

That makes Luis’s story particularly interesting in Moria, because his role is not simply that of a former boyfriend included to fill out the star’s romantic history. His relationship with Moria shows how quickly an ordinary life can be transformed by proximity to a major celebrity, and how difficult it can be to completely step away once the public has decided that a particular relationship is part of your identity.

Fan reactions to the storyline are likely to vary. Some viewers are interested in seeing how closely the Netflix portrayal reflects the real relationship, particularly because Luis’s life after the breakup receives far less attention in the series.

Others may find themselves more curious about what happened behind the scenes and whether the complicated aftermath of the relationship could have filled an entire series of its own.

There is also something rather ironic about a man who became famous through a hugely public relationship eventually spending years trying to live a life away from the spotlight.

Luis Vidala died on 23 July 2023 at the age of 69 at Hospital Británico in Buenos Aires after being hospitalised for several days with an illness that was not publicly identified in the information provided.

His death closed a life that had taken several unexpected turns, from working in a mechanic shop to becoming part of Argentina’s entertainment conversation, appearing on reality television, attempting theatre, running businesses and eventually embracing a quieter routine.

For viewers discovering Moria through Netflix, Luis’s story adds another layer to the series’ portrait of the Argentine icon. His relationship with Moria was real, his years in the public eye were real, and his decision to eventually build a life outside that spotlight was perhaps the most revealing part of all. Did Netflix give enough attention to Luis’s side of the story, or would you have liked to see more of what happened after his relationship with Moria ended?
