A packed stadium expecting nothing more dramatic than a spectacular opening night instead witnessed Wang Leehom hit the stage far harder than anyone had planned. The Taiwanese singer suffered a painful fall during the Chengdu stop of his "The Best Place II" tour after reportedly tripping over a safety harness left on the stage. Blood quickly became visible on the left side of his face and ear, yet instead of bringing the concert to an abrupt halt, he got back on his feet and carried on performing, leaving tens of thousands of fans stunned.

The accident unfolded only minutes into the concert while Wang Leehom was making his way back from the extended stage during a performance of Tiandi Longlin. According to initial accounts, a safety wire that had already been removed from his waist remained on the floor.

He caught his foot on it, lost balance and crashed forward, with the left side of his head striking the edge of the metal stage steps. Crew members rushed over immediately as the audience watched in disbelief.

Close-up footage shown on the venue screens made it clear the incident was more than a minor stumble. Blood could be seen running from his left ear and across his face, with visible cuts around the side of his head.

For many fans, it was one of those moments where the music almost became background noise as everyone simply wanted to know whether the singer was alright.

During a short costume change, medical staff treated the injuries backstage and wrapped his left ear before he returned to continue the show. Rather than creating panic, Wang Leehom chose humour.

Smiling through the discomfort, he joked that he looked "a bit like Van Gogh" after the accident, explaining that his hard in-ear monitor had taken the full impact during the fall. The device broke, causing his ear to bleed, but he reassured the audience that the injuries were external and urged everyone not to worry.

Why Did Wang Leehom Fall at Chengdu Concert Stage Accident

He did not stop there. Still trying to lighten the mood, he laughed that he also resembled an MMA fighter before adding that when someone falls, they simply get back up again.

It was a line that drew cheers across the stadium, although plenty of people watching online probably muttered, "Maybe sit down for five minutes first." Despite relying on only one functioning in-ear monitor after the other was damaged, Wang Leehom completed the full three-hour concert.

He later admitted that standing in front of around 40,000 fans made him almost forget the pain entirely, saying the performance itself became his focus. It was only after leaving the stage that the seriousness of the injuries became fully apparent.

Following the concert, the singer was taken directly to hospital for further treatment. Medical examinations confirmed there were no injuries to his skull or brain following CT scans, bringing huge relief to both fans and his team.

Doctors reportedly repaired damage to the cartilage in his left ear with 27 stitches, while another 12 stitches were needed for cuts on his face, bringing the total to 39 stitches.

Later, Wang Leehom thanked supporters for their concern, describing himself as fortunate that the injuries were not more severe. He assured fans he was recovering well and expressed gratitude for the flood of encouraging messages, saying he had received everyone's love and hoped to return it many times over.

His management team also addressed the incident, saying an initial review suggested the fall was caused by improper handling of the stage wire during the performance sequence.

An internal investigation has since been launched to examine the incident, review production procedures and strengthen safety measures for future concerts. The team stressed that every stage element would be reassessed to reduce the risk of similar accidents happening again.

Perhaps the biggest surprise came after the hospital visit. Once doctors confirmed he was fit enough to continue, the management announced that the following night's Chengdu concert would proceed as scheduled.

For concertgoers who had worried the remaining performance might be cancelled, it was welcome news, although many admitted they hoped the singer would be taking things a little more carefully.

While many people praised Wang Leehom's professionalism, others questioned whether continuing to perform immediately after such an accident should really be celebrated.

There was also admiration for how the situation was handled inside the venue. Fans praised the medical staff and crew for responding quickly, while many noted that Wang Leehom's decision to reassure the audience with humour helped prevent panic.

His Van Gogh comparison quickly spread across social media, becoming one of the most talked-about moments from the night, proving that even after a painful fall, he somehow still managed to deliver one of the evening's biggest laughs.

Should Wang Leehom be applauded for finishing the show, or should artists be encouraged to put their health first after accidents like this?
