Show Lo has stepped in to set the record straight after fresh online rumours claimed he was one of the reasons Stephen Chow's long-delayed film The Mermaid 2 had struggled to reach cinemas. As speculation about the sequel gathered pace again, the Taiwanese singer and actor responded with a short but direct statement, making it clear that he was never part of the film in the first place.
The clarification arrived after reports circulated across Chinese-language social media suggesting The Mermaid 2, which reportedly wrapped filming around eight years ago, had finally passed mainland China's review process and could be released next year.
Alongside the excitement came a familiar rumour claiming several actors involved in the production had caused major setbacks, resulting in deleted scenes, expensive reshoots and repeated release delays.
One version of the story alleged that Show Lo had a significant role in the sequel alongside another cast member and that both actors' scenes reportedly accounted for a substantial portion of the film.
