| Rick and Morty Season 10 Plot, Cast, Release Date and Everything We Know So Far. |
Rick and Morty Season 10 is shaping up to be one of the biggest chapters in the animated sci-fi comedy's history, and not simply because another portal gun is about to cause absolute mayhem. The upcoming season marks the conclusion of the show's original planned 10-season narrative, wrapping up storylines that have been building for years while preparing the ground for even more adventures beyond it. Judging by the first footage revealed at San Diego Comic-Con, fans should expect exactly what the series does best: complete madness somehow stitched together with surprisingly emotional storytelling.
Although the new season remains deep in production, showrunner Scott Marder and the creative team have already offered an early glimpse at what lies ahead. Instead of a polished trailer, attendees were treated to an unfinished black-and-white animatic from the opening episode, proving once again that Rick and Morty is perfectly comfortable making fans excited with rough sketches before the finished product even exists. Somehow it still looked chaotic enough to spark plenty of discussion.
One of the biggest reveals came through an episode titled "Air-B'n Body", which introduces another wonderfully ridiculous idea only this series could make sound completely reasonable.
In the story, Rick Sanchez rents someone else's physical body through a bizarre cosmic sharing service in order to save an alien civilisation. It sounds like the sort of business model nobody asked for but Rick somehow treats as perfectly normal. Whether it ends well is another question entirely, because this is Rick we're talking about.
The preview also included one of the season's funniest moments. The Smith family gathers for what appears to be Rick's funeral, complete with emotional speeches and a coffin.
Just when everyone appears ready to move on, Rick casually wakes up inside the coffin and announces he wasn't dead at all. He had simply been enjoying an extremely intense holiday. For most families that would probably require years of therapy. For this family, it's apparently just another Tuesday.
Beyond the comedy, the production team confirmed that Season 10 will lean into darker storytelling once again. The writers teased horror-inspired episodes and psychological twists similar to the acclaimed Season 6 episode Night Family, which remains one of the series' most inventive stories.
Expect unsettling concepts, strange realities and the kind of existential crisis that somehow arrives between jokes about aliens and household appliances. The upcoming season will also feature the landmark 100th episode of Rick and Morty, a milestone the creative team says will deliver significant rewards for long-time viewers.
Rather than existing purely as a celebration, the episode is expected to push major multiverse storylines forward while resolving character arcs that have quietly evolved across the series. In typical Rick and Morty fashion, fans should probably prepare for shocking revelations wrapped inside complete absurdity.
Long-time viewers also have more mythology to look forward to. The writers confirmed that future episodes will revisit Time God Jessica, expand the strange history surrounding Churry, the unforgettable sentient churro, and continue the family's therapy sessions with Dr. Wong, whose remarkable ability to stay calm despite treating this household deserves its own award.
Original writer Ryan Ridley has also returned to help expand the show's deeper mythology as the original saga approaches its conclusion. Behind the scenes, production continues at full speed. According to Scott Marder, scripts for Season 10 are already well beyond the halfway point, with the writing team focusing on delivering a satisfying conclusion to the original narrative plan.
While individual episode summaries remain under wraps, the creators insist the season balances emotional pay-offs with the unpredictable storytelling that made the series a global favourite.
As for the cast, viewers can expect the familiar voices to return, including Ian Cardoni as Rick Sanchez, Harry Belden as Morty Smith, Sarah Chalke as Beth, Chris Parnell as Jerry, and Spencer Grammer as Summer. Their performances have helped the series transition into its latest era while maintaining the personalities that audiences have followed for years.
An official release date has yet to be confirmed, but current production updates suggest Rick and Morty Season 10 will likely premiere sometime between the middle and latter part of 2027.
The timing fits the show's recent production cycle, especially after Season 9 concluded with its finale, Field of Dreams. Unless another interdimensional delay appears out of nowhere, that schedule currently looks the most realistic.
Interestingly, Season 10 will not be the end of Rick and Morty itself. While it concludes the original 10-season saga envisioned by the creative team, Adult Swim has already renewed the series through Season 12. On top of that, a feature-length Rick and Morty film remains in early development, meaning Rick's spectacularly questionable life choices are far from over.
Fan reactions to the Comic-Con preview have been predictably mixed in the best possible way. Many viewers are thrilled that the writers appear to be revisiting long-running storylines rather than relying solely on standalone adventures.
Others are particularly excited by the promise of horror-inspired episodes after the success of Night Family. A handful of fans, meanwhile, admitted the fake funeral scene perfectly sums up the show's humour: you spend thirty seconds wondering if something genuinely emotional is happening before remembering Rick would absolutely fake his own funeral just to make everyone feel awkward.
With milestone episodes, returning mythology, darker storytelling and another round of reality-breaking adventures on the horizon, Rick and Morty Season 10 has every opportunity to become one of the franchise's most memorable chapters.
If the Comic-Con preview is any indication, the series has no intention of slowing down just because it has reached its original finish line. What are you hoping to see in Rick and Morty Season 10? Which unresolved storyline deserves the biggest payoff? Share your predictions and favourite theories because, with this show, the wildest guesses somehow end up sounding perfectly reasonable.
