Businesses struggle, tourism declines and familiar faces gradually disappear as the community enters a difficult new chapter. Among those departing are the influential Collins family, whose exit reflects the wider changes reshaping the town.
For Reid, however, leaving Ransom Canyon is presented as a perfectly logical step rather than an unexpected disappearance. Instead of remaining behind, he heads to College Station, Texas, where he begins studying at Texas A&M University.
The decision fits naturally with the direction of the younger characters, many of whom are also preparing to leave home for university and explore life beyond the small Texas community.
After his relationship with Lauren ended and his family relocated, there was little left keeping Reid in town besides memories that probably were not doing him many favours anyway.
His father, Davis Collins, takes a different path by selling the Bar W ranch and relocating to Austin, where he attempts to rebuild his relationship with his former wife, Paula Jo.
Unlike Reid's university plans, Davis' departure also reflects the show's shifting creative direction. Following season 1, the series appears to reduce its focus on the Collins family altogether as new storylines and conflicts take centre stage.
That creative decision has inevitably fuelled speculation surrounding Andrew Liner's future with the series. As things currently stand, the actor does not return for season 2, making Reid's absence feel more permanent than temporary.
While the character's move to university leaves the door technically open for future appearances during holidays or family visits, the series offers no clear indication that such a comeback is currently being planned. In television, nobody should ever say never, but for now Reid seems to have packed more than just a suitcase.
Fans have responded with mixed emotions. Many viewers understand why the story naturally shifted towards new characters and evolving conflicts, especially after Reid's biggest storyline reached a satisfying conclusion.

Following the series, he continues expanding his career with projects including The Wayfinders and the short film Lumps, while upcoming productions such as It's Not a Sin, Mind Games, and The Him suggest audiences will not have to wait long to see him back on screen.
