Fresh from enjoying the biggest wave of global attention in its career, the five-member group has officially announced it will end all activities and disband in spring 2027. For many supporters, the timing feels less like the final chapter of a fading group and more like someone deciding to leave the party just as everyone starts dancing.
The announcement was made through the group's official website on 1 July, confirming that Cho Tokimeki♡Sendenbu had reached a collective decision after extensive discussions involving both the members and staff.
Rather than pointing to conflict, contract issues or health concerns, the statement describes the decision as one reached carefully over time. While the exact details behind those conversations remain private, the group made it clear the choice was not made overnight.
That explanation has naturally left many fans asking the obvious question: why disband now, especially when the group is arguably more popular than ever?
The simple answer is that there is no public indication of scandal or internal dispute. Instead, the members appear to have chosen to bring the group's journey to a close on their own terms after spending more than a decade together.
In the idol industry, where burnout, changing ambitions and long-term career planning often play a role behind the scenes, ending at a high point is unusual but not unheard of. It is a rare move that says, "We'll leave before people ask us to," rather than waiting for popularity to decline.
That decision has made the announcement even more surprising because Cho Tokimeki♡Sendenbu is far from slowing down.
Originally formed in 2015 as Tokimeki♡Sendenbu, the group rebranded as Cho Tokimeki♡Sendenbu in 2020 and steadily built a loyal following.
Their colourful concept, cheerful performances and energetic stage presence helped them stand out in Japan's competitive idol scene, but it was social media that pushed them to another level.
The breakthrough arrived in spectacular fashion during 2024 when "Saijoukyuu ni Kawaii no!" exploded across TikTok and other platforms. Suddenly, people who had never followed Japanese idols were dancing, lip-syncing and sharing clips featuring the group's music.
Earlier songs including "Suki! ~ Cho ver ~" and "Cho Saikyo" also found new international audiences, helping the group grow well beyond Japan. Instead of being known only within idol circles, they became one of the country's most recognisable pop exports online.
Commercially, the momentum kept building. The group celebrated its 10th anniversary with sold-out events, continued releasing new music including the single "Dream Jumbo!", planned a nationwide tour throughout 2026 and remained a regular fixture at music festivals.
Everything suggested a group enjoying its strongest period, making the farewell announcement feel even more unexpected. The current line-up features leader Tsujino Kanami, alongside fellow founding members Sakai Hitoka, Koizumi Haruka and Yoshikawa Hiyori, with Suda Aki joining during the group's 2020 relaunch.
Earlier this year, member An Julia graduated from the group, leaving the current five-member formation to continue activities until the planned conclusion in 2027.
Fortunately for fans, the farewell is not immediate. Cho Tokimeki♡Sendenbu will complete its scheduled summer national tour, perform at music festivals, return for its annual December concert and eventually hold one final solo live performance in spring 2027.
The venue has not yet been announced, but management says additional opportunities to meet fans are also being planned before the group's final curtain call.
Reactions have been every bit as emotional as expected. Some fans admitted they initially assumed the announcement was a prank because the timing made so little sense. Others questioned why a group riding such enormous popularity would choose to stop now instead of enjoying several more years at the top.
A few even joked that success clearly forgot to read the schedule before this announcement arrived. At the same time, many supporters expressed respect for the members' decision, saying it is better to end with happy memories than watch a group slowly lose its spark.
