The internet only needed one sentence from Cher to start connecting dots that may not even exist. The music icon has once again found herself at the centre of marriage speculation after sharing a cryptic message on Twitter that ended with a diamond emoji, prompting fans to wonder whether wedding bells could finally be on the horizon with her long-time partner, Alexander "AE" Edwards.

On 1 June 2026, the Goddess of Pop posted a brief but intriguing message that instantly grabbed attention.

"I said yes to something I usually say no to. It was very sleek."

The sentence itself was mysterious enough, but it was the diamond emoji at the end that really sent social media into detective mode. Within minutes, fans were dissecting every word, convinced the post might have been an understated way of revealing an engagement.

After all, if celebrities wanted peace and quiet, they probably wouldn't end cryptic posts with jewellery-related emojis. The speculation is hardly new.

For months, stories have suggested that Cher had been considering marrying Edwards around her milestone 80th birthday, with reports claiming she viewed the occasion as the perfect celebration of both life and love.

Those rumours, however, were firmly dismissed at the time when her representative stated, "There are absolutely no plans for a wedding in her future."

Despite that clear denial, the latest social media post has breathed fresh life into the discussion. Fans quickly flooded the replies with questions rather than congratulations.

"When's the wedding?" one user asked, while another joked that the diamond emoji had "done more work than an official press release."

Others urged fans not to jump to conclusions, suggesting the post could easily refer to a business deal, a fashion item or simply one of Cher's famously unpredictable online thoughts. After all, she has built a career on keeping audiences guessing.

Reactions across social media have been split. Some supporters are convinced the singer is quietly dropping clues before making an announcement, while others believe people are reading far too much into a single sentence.

A few admitted they simply enjoy watching the internet create an entire wedding from one emoji. If speculation were an Olympic event, social media would already be standing on the podium.

Whether marriage is actually on the cards or not, one thing that has remained remarkably consistent is Cher's refusal to let public opinion dictate her relationship.

Since she and Alexander "AE" Edwards first met during Paris Fashion Week in 2022, the couple have rarely escaped headlines focusing on their age difference rather than their relationship itself.

The pair were first spotted together later that year in Los Angeles, effectively confirming they were dating. Reports later suggested they briefly went their separate ways in 2023 before reconciling a few months later. Since then, they have continued to appear together at events, proving that rumours often have a much shorter shelf life than their relationship.

The age gap between them continues to spark conversation, with Edwards being roughly four decades younger than Cher. Yet the singer has repeatedly made it clear that she finds the criticism far less interesting than everyone else does.

Speaking on CBS Mornings, Cher brushed aside the attention by saying, "Whatever. They're not living my life. Nobody knows what goes on between us, but we just have a blast."

She continued by explaining exactly why the relationship works for her.

"We laugh all the time. I love him. He's beautiful. He's talented. He's one of the most talented people I've ever met."

Discussing how Edwards views their age difference, she added, "No, thank God. He just says, 'You get older, but your spirit is younger.'"

Her relaxed attitude towards the criticism has remained unchanged over the years. During an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show in late 2022, she openly admitted that their relationship might appear unusual from the outside.

"On paper, it's kind of ridiculous. But in real life, we get along great. He's fabulous. And I don't give men qualities that they don't deserve."

She also joked that she doesn't usually date younger men because "they're just intimidated," before adding that Edwards was different because he wasn't afraid to approach her. It was another reminder that Cher has never been particularly interested in following anyone else's rulebook.

Away from the headlines, Alexander "AE" Edwards has built a career of his own within the music industry. A respected music executive and producer, he has worked with several well-known artists over the years.

He also collaborated with Cher on her 2023 festive album, Christmas, showing that their relationship extends beyond red carpet appearances into creative projects as well.

Before dating Cher, Edwards was in a relationship with model Amber Rose, with whom he shares a son. Since beginning his relationship with the pop legend, however, he has largely stayed out of the spotlight compared with the constant public fascination surrounding their romance.

For now, there is still no official confirmation that Cher and Alexander "AE" Edwards are engaged or planning a wedding. The latest excitement stems entirely from one mysterious social media post and an emoji that has arguably become the busiest piece of punctuation on the internet this week. Until either of them says otherwise, the marriage talk remains exactly that — speculation.

Still, if there's one thing Cher has perfected alongside an extraordinary career, it's the ability to keep everyone talking with barely a dozen words. Do you think her latest post was quietly hinting at something bigger, or has the internet simply sprinted ahead of the facts again? Share your thoughts and join the conversation.
