The former TVB actress has confirmed she is back in the industry after signing with the newly launched New World Entertainment, marking the beginning of a fresh chapter that includes acting, music, live streaming and short-form drama productions. In an era where celebrity comebacks happen almost weekly, returning after more than 30 years is still enough to make even longtime fans stop scrolling for a second.
The announcement came during a press conference in Tsim Sha Tsui, where the 57-year-old actress appeared relaxed but honest about the emotions behind her decision. Cecilia admitted she had considered returning for years, yet the biggest obstacle was never a lack of opportunities.
Instead, it was convincing herself that she could fit into an entertainment industry that has transformed dramatically since she retired in 1995. After all, leaving before smartphones existed and coming back when everyone is broadcasting live from their kitchen is quite the adjustment.
According to Cecilia, the encouragement of her godbrother, who founded New World Entertainment, together with the support of her manager Connie Lam, finally gave her the confidence to take the leap.
Rather than dwelling on how much the business has changed, she decided it was better to embrace the challenge than continue wondering what might have been. Sometimes the hardest audition is simply convincing yourself to walk through the front door again.
Her comeback is already moving beyond acting. Cecilia revealed she has recorded several songs and is preparing to film a new music video, while also exploring investments in short-form dramas and live streaming.
The strategy reflects how today's entertainment landscape rewards versatility. Gone are the days when stars only appeared on television once a week. Now they're expected to sing, create digital content, interact with audiences and somehow still find time to sleep.

Of course, no public appearance involving Cecilia Yiu was ever likely to avoid questions about Aaron Kwok, whose early relationship with the actress remains one of Hong Kong entertainment's most talked-about romances.
Widely regarded as the Cantopop icon's first love, the pair reportedly dated for around five years before eventually going their separate ways.
Rather than sidestepping the subject, Cecilia addressed it with refreshing honesty and humour. She admitted she had expected the questions and made it clear there were no lingering hard feelings.
The relationship, she said, belongs firmly in the past, and she would have no objection to working alongside Aaron Kwok professionally should the opportunity arise. She even praised his professionalism after recently watching him perform in Macau, although she confirmed the pair have not remained in contact over the years.
Asked why their relationship ended, Cecilia confessed she could no longer remember every detail, saying that many relationships simply fade because circumstances change or people grow in different directions.
It was perhaps the most realistic answer of the afternoon. Not every past romance comes with a dramatic twist worthy of a television script, despite how much people might wish otherwise.
The actress also used the occasion to clear up years of confusion surrounding her age. Cecilia explained that she was born in 1969 and is 57 this year, noting that incorrect information online has circulated for years despite repeated attempts to correct it.
She also pointed out that she was just 17 when she first dated Aaron Kwok, clarifying that the two are not the same age as some reports have previously suggested. Away from the entertainment industry, Cecilia built a very different life after retiring.
She married a businessman, raised two daughters, now aged 29 and 25, and currently lives in Shanghai following her divorce. Her younger daughter has also stepped into the public eye through beauty pageants, showing that an interest in the spotlight may well run in the family.
