Anything But Ghosts: Release Date, Cast, Plot and Everything We Know About the Obsession Sequel

The success of Obsession has opened the door to something even stranger, and Curry Barker is wasting no time expanding his supernatural world. Rather than delivering a direct sequel, the filmmaker is taking audiences into fresh territory with Anything But Ghosts, a horror-comedy set in the same universe that promises haunted houses, fake ghost hunters, unexpected laughs and enough eerie twists to keep viewers guessing. If Obsession made people think twice before making a wish, this next chapter might make them think twice before hiring paranormal investigators.

Although an official premiere date has yet to be confirmed, Anything But Ghosts is currently expected to arrive sometime in late 2027 or 2028. Production is already moving forward, but Barker has remained careful about revealing too many details.

For now, fans are left piecing together interviews, behind-the-scenes comments and a handful of intriguing teases while counting down to another trip into his increasingly bizarre supernatural universe.

One thing Barker has confirmed is that Anything But Ghosts shares the same world as Obsession, meaning audiences should expect familiar supernatural rules, recurring themes and perhaps a few lingering consequences from the first film.

Most notably, the mysterious One Wish Willow will return in some form. Whether it appears briefly as a supernatural callback or once again becomes the source of chaos remains one of the film's biggest mysteries.

Unlike Obsession, which centred on obsession, manipulation and emotional control through supernatural forces, the new film shifts gears with a noticeably lighter tone. The story follows two ghost hunters who have built their careers by fooling desperate clients with staged paranormal encounters.

From shaking furniture and flickering lights to carefully crafted scares, their business depends on convincing people that every creak in the house is something from the afterlife.

Business is good until they finally walk into a property where absolutely nobody needs special effects because something genuinely terrifying is already waiting inside. That premise gives Barker and longtime collaborator Cooper Tomlinson plenty of room to blend horror with comedy.

Barker has already described the project as leaning much more heavily into humour than Obsession, suggesting the film will capture the offbeat style that made the pair popular through their viral comedy channel. In other words, expect plenty of awkward banter before someone realises the ghost wasn't part of the rehearsal.

The biggest talking point, however, may be how closely the film connects to Obsession. Barker previously revealed that one scene features a news broadcast mentioning a triple homicide, immediately sending fans into detective mode.

Many suspect it references the devastating events surrounding Nikki at the end of the first film, while others believe Barker is deliberately leading audiences towards the wrong conclusion. Knowing horror films, the obvious answer is usually the first thing that gets thrown out of the haunted window.

The cast also gives audiences plenty to look forward to. Curry Barker returns both behind and in front of the camera as Mouse, while Cooper Tomlinson joins him as another leading character. The pair are widely expected to play the fraudulent ghost hunters at the centre of the story.

Their chemistry has already been proven through years of comedy collaborations, making them a natural fit for a film balancing genuine scares with awkward humour.BJoining them is an impressive supporting cast featuring Aaron Paul, Violet McGraw, Chris Reinacher, Halle Galloway and Kristina Matisic

While most character details remain under wraps, many fans believe they could portray the family living inside the haunted house or individuals connected to its disturbing history.

Galloway plays Jessica, while Matisic appears as a news reporter, a role that could tie directly into Barker's mysterious triple homicide tease.

Beyond the haunted house itself, audiences can expect the film to continue exploring themes that made Obsession stand out, including trust, manipulation, relationships and the blurred line between reality and the supernatural.

The difference is that this time those ideas are expected to arrive with more jokes, more bizarre situations and plenty of moments where viewers will probably laugh first before immediately regretting it.

Online reaction has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic since Barker confirmed the shared universe. Many fans are excited to see the return of the One Wish Willow, while others are already busy building theories about how Anything But Ghosts connects to Obsession

Some viewers are especially curious about Tomlinson appearing as a completely different character despite the events of the first film, leading to speculation that Barker may be preparing another reality-bending surprise. Others are simply happy to see a horror film where fake ghost hunters finally meet something that refuses to read the script.

With its unusual blend of supernatural horror, comedy and expanding mythology, Anything But Ghosts is shaping up to be far more than just another haunted house film. Next: Where Was Obsession Filmed?
