Rumoured casting for the upcoming Chinese costume dramas Revenge and Ci Tang has sparked one of the biggest fan debates in C-ent this month, long before cameras have even started rolling. While reports continue to suggest Zhang Linghe is attached as the male lead, the possibility of Lu Yuxiao joining as the female lead has divided fans, turning casting speculation into an industry-wide discussion about agencies, resources and fan expectations. As always, in modern entertainment, sometimes the casting rumours create more drama than the actual script. 

Much of the controversy stems from claims surrounding Lu Yuxiao's management team rather than the actress herself. According to online discussions, Zhang Linghe's fanbase remains unhappy over allegations that Lu Yuxiao's agent previously interacted publicly with an online account widely viewed by fans as one of Zhang Linghe's strongest critics.

Speculation suggests that under newer industry practices, Lu Yuxiao could potentially receive higher name placement if she joins the same project. That possibility has made some of Zhang Linghe's supporters nervous, particularly after his recent success has strengthened his position among the most closely watched actors of his generation.

The concerns extend beyond the credits. Rumours describe CiTang as a female-centred story, with the heroine driving much of the narrative. Some fans believe this would leave Zhang Linghe's character supporting the overall plot rather than sharing equal importance.

Securing both leading roles for artists from the same company is hardly unusual in Chinese entertainment. It can simplify negotiations, strengthen the agency's influence over a production and create opportunities to build successful on-screen partnerships. From a business perspective, it is simply strategy rather than sentiment.

Reports circulating online also suggest the agency has been attempting to secure Lu Yuxiao for Revenge, while the production team is said to favour exploring other options because another major project, Light Through the Eternal Storm, already features Lu Yuxiao in a leading role. Neither claim has been officially confirmed, and negotiations are reportedly continuing, leaving the casting situation far from settled.

Adding fuel to the discussion is the lengthy casting process surrounding Ci Tang. Over recent months, numerous actresses have reportedly been linked to the female lead, with several names appearing in entertainment rumours before disappearing again without confirmation. 

The constant speculation has left many fans increasingly sceptical of every new update, with some joking that the casting list changes more often than the weather forecast.

The response from Zhang Linghe's fanbase has become increasingly organised. According to online discussions, supporters have sent emails to the production team expressing opposition to Lu Yuxiao's reported involvement, while social media has seen hashtags and comment sections flooded with calls to reconsider the casting. 

As of the latest production updates circulating online, only Zhang Linghe has reportedly appeared in official casting information, while the female lead has yet to be announced.

Another name generating discussion is Yang Chaoyue, who has emerged in online rumours as a possible alternative female lead for Revenge alongside Zhang Linghe. While nothing has been officially confirmed, some fans have welcomed the reported pairing, believing it would offer a fresh on-screen dynamic without the baggage surrounding the current casting debate.

Not everyone agrees with the backlash, however. Many C-netz argue that casting decisions are ultimately commercial negotiations involving agencies, platforms and production companies rather than actors personally selecting their co-stars.

Lu Yuxiao may actually benefit if she is ultimately not cast in the project, suggesting it could help her avoid months of unnecessary online arguments..

For now, neither Revenge nor CiTang has officially confirmed its female lead, meaning much of the ongoing debate remains based on industry reports and online speculation rather than final casting announcements. Until contracts are signed, today's favourite rumour could easily become tomorrow's abandoned headline.
