The newsroom war is far from over. The Queen of News 3 (新聞女王3) has officially been confirmed by TVB, extending one of the broadcaster’s most successful and talked-about dramas of the past decade. Announced during the TVB 2026 Greater Bay Area Integration · IP Expansion Press Conference in Shenzhen on 12 June, the third season immediately became one of the biggest talking points of the event, proving that audiences are still not ready to leave this fiercely competitive world of ratings battles, newsroom politics and complicated relationships.
The original The Queen of News became a surprise phenomenon when it premiered, earning praise across Hong Kong, Mainland China and overseas markets for its sharp storytelling and powerhouse performances.
The Queen of News Season 2 continued expanding the drama's universe, but it also left several storylines hanging in the air, which explains why confirmation of a third season has generated so much excitement.
In a television landscape where many dramas disappear after one successful run, reaching a third season is becoming increasingly rare. For TVB, it is a sign that The Queen of News remains one of its strongest modern franchises.
Among those celebrating the announcement was Shaun Tam, who admitted he only recently learned that The Queen of News Season 3 was moving forward.
The actor appeared genuinely delighted that the original cast and creative team would reunite once again. Yet it was his playful comments about his on-screen relationship with Charmaine Sheh that immediately caught attention.
According to Shaun, there is still unfinished business between their characters. He jokingly said he hopes the new season gives them more opportunities to continue their relationship storyline while "kicking Matthew Ho out of the way".
The remark drew laughter because viewers have spent two seasons watching romantic tensions, misunderstandings and emotional complications unfold.
When asked whether his character and Charmaine's could rekindle their romance, Shaun delivered a teasing response that will undoubtedly fuel fan discussions for months: "We never stopped."
The actor also displayed his trademark humour by suggesting that producer Chung Shu-kai's fascination with futuristic concepts could somehow lead to a crossover storyline that magically fixes his character's lingering leg injury.
It was clearly a joke, although long-time drama fans know television writers occasionally make stranger decisions than that. Meanwhile, Samantha Ko was equally enthusiastic about returning to the newsroom universe.
Her portrayal of Cathy Hui Sze Ching became one of the breakout successes of the franchise, transforming the character into a fan favourite. Samantha laughed off questions about her The Queen of News Season 3 involvement, suggesting she would be surprised if producers decided to leave her behind after everything Cathy has contributed to the story.
Even more significantly, Cathy is receiving her own spin-off series, News Officer Hui Sze Ching (新聞官許詩晴). While preparations are still ongoing, Samantha made it clear she is ready whenever filming begins.
She explained that Cathy has only shown one side of her personality so far and that there are many layers still waiting to be explored.
Judging from audience enthusiasm surrounding the character, TVB appears confident that viewers are willing to follow Cathy beyond the main series. As for the wider cast, expectations remain high that many familiar faces will return.
While TVB has yet to officially confirm a complete cast list, the press conference featured an impressive line-up including Charmaine Sheh, Shaun Tam, Samantha Ko, Moses Chan, Ruco Chan, Owen Cheung, Him Law, Katy Kung, Kelly Cheung, Alice Chan, Joman Chiang and Joey Thye.
Given the franchise's ensemble nature, audiences are hoping most of these characters will continue shaping the next chapter of the newsroom battle.
So what can viewers expect from The Queen of News Season 3? If the ending of Season 2 is any indication, the next instalment will likely dive deeper into unresolved rivalries, leadership struggles and shifting alliances within the broadcasting industry.
The franchise has always thrived on showcasing ambitious professionals fighting for influence, ratings and survival in a brutally competitive environment.
The Queen of News Season 3 could also place greater focus on evolving media trends, digital platforms and changing audience habits, topics that have become increasingly relevant in the real broadcasting world.
Relationship drama will almost certainly remain a major ingredient. The lingering connection between Shaun Tam's character and Charmaine Sheh's character continues to be one of the franchise's most discussed storylines.
Fans have spent years debating whether the pair belong together, and The Queen of News Season 3 may finally provide clearer answers. Then again, this is The Queen of News, where emotional closure often arrives with the same speed as a delayed breaking-news bulletin.
Although TVB has not announced an official premiere date, production is expected to move forward after schedules are finalised. Given the scale of the project and the broadcaster's current development slate, a release sometime in late 2026 or 2027 appears the most realistic scenario.
For now, audiences will need a little patience, something television fans traditionally claim to have while simultaneously demanding trailers every other day.
Online reaction has been largely enthusiastic, although not everyone agrees on what should happen next. Some viewers are already campaigning for more scenes between Charmaine Sheh and Shaun Tam, while others believe the series should focus more heavily on newsroom rivalries rather than romance.
Cathy Hui's spin-off has also generated considerable excitement, with many fans arguing that Samantha Ko has more than earned a leading role of her own. Meanwhile, a smaller group of viewers remains concerned about whether a third season can maintain the quality and intensity that made the original drama such a success.
After all, audiences can forgive newsroom scandals, corporate betrayals and dramatic confrontations, but they rarely forgive a disappointing sequel. One thing is certain: The Queen of News 3 has already become one of TVB's most anticipated upcoming dramas.
Between unresolved romances, ambitious journalists, newsroom power struggles and the expansion of the franchise through Cathy Hui's spin-off, the battle for ratings is only getting started.
The real question now is simple: who will emerge as the true queen of the newsroom when the cameras start rolling again? And more importantly, which character are you backing when the next round of chaos begins?
