Chinese entertainment is still processing the sudden loss of Garvey Jin (Jin Ze), the 33-year-old actor who sadly passed away in early June, but the conversation has now taken an unexpected turn. Just days after his agency confirmed his death, private chat logs allegedly shared by his former girlfriend began circulating online, prompting renewed discussion about the pressures faced by performers behind the camera. What began as a story about an actor's sudden passing has rapidly evolved into a wider debate about exhausting work schedules, industry culture and whether warning signs were overlooked.
According to messages that have spread across Weibo, Jin Ze, whose birth name was Zhang Jiawei, reportedly spoke openly about relentless filming schedules and severe exhaustion. The conversations suggest he often finished work close to midnight before returning to set again shortly after sunrise.
In several messages attributed to the actor, he reportedly described feeling physically drained and struggling to recover from the demands of his workload.
One remark that has attracted particular attention was a message in which he allegedly joked that he was "about to collapse", a comment that many online users are now revisiting with sadness.

The chat logs shared by his former girlfriend have generated even more discussion because they reportedly show Jin Ze seeking emotional support during difficult periods.
She claimed that there were times when he reached out for help but that communication between them eventually broke down. She said that after hearing the news of his passing, she learned that Jin Ze had only 58,000 yuan (USD 8.5k) in his bank account at the time of his death.

She then shared chat records from when she and Jin Ze were in a relationship. At the time, Li Zifeng had even given him a necklace worth more than 20,000 yuan (USD 2.9k)
Li Zifeng also posted conversations showing arguments between herself and Jin Ze. From the exchanges, it appeared that Jin Ze was often not in control of his own circumstances and was frequently forced into situations beyond his choosing

Following his passing, she reportedly expressed regret over how those interactions ended, saying she could not stop thinking about how isolated he may have felt at the time.
Some of the circulating screenshots also contain serious allegations regarding experiences Jin Ze allegedly encountered earlier in his career.

Later in the early hours of the morning, Li Zifeng released another set of chat records, which quickly sparked widespread discussion online. Li Zifeng said that Jin Ze had reached out to her for help at the time, but she ended up blocking him, something she now deeply regrets.
In the alleged chat logs, Jin Ze made references to attending social events with industry figures, including Gong Yu and Liu Tao, and described experiences that he found deeply uncomfortable.
He also allegedly wrote: "Liu Tao made me kneel down. He bit me and dragged me. He dragged me onto the bed. How am I supposed to explain that?"
Before his passing, Jin Ze had been actively building his career in the growing short-drama sector. Industry observers noted that despite broader challenges facing the television market, he continued accepting multiple projects and remained determined to expand his opportunities.
Friends and colleagues have since remembered him as someone who worked tirelessly and rarely complained publicly, making the contents of the alleged private conversations particularly striking for many followers.
Neither Jin Ze's agency nor other parties mentioned in the circulating conversations have publicly addressed the claims contained in the screenshots.
