While Netflix's Chris & Martina: The Final Set shines a spotlight on the legendary rivalry between Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova, it has also prompted many viewers to look beyond the trophies and titles. Behind one of tennis' greatest champions stands a family whose influence shaped her remarkable career, supported her through personal heartbreak and remained by her side long after the cheering crowds disappeared. Their stories are just as compelling as the matches that made sporting history.

Long before Chris Evert became one of the most decorated players the sport has ever seen, her father, Jimmy Evert, had already built a respected name in American tennis. A gifted player himself, he transformed the Holiday Park Tennis Center in Fort Lauderdale into one of the country's leading development programmes, coaching generations of young talent.

More importantly, he became the first coach of his daughter, laying the technical and mental foundations that would eventually produce an 18-time Grand Slam singles champion. Safe to say, family coaching sessions in the Evert household were probably a little more competitive than the average weekend hit-around.

Alongside him stood Colette Evert, whose calm presence balanced the demanding world of junior tennis. While Jimmy focused on coaching, Colette became the family's travelling organiser, accompanying her children across countless tournaments and quietly ensuring everything ran smoothly behind the scenes.

She was a familiar and respected figure around tennis events for decades, supporting all five of her children as they pursued the sport. Following Jimmy's passing in 2015, Colette remained close to her family until her peaceful death in 2020, leaving behind a legacy built on devotion rather than headlines.

Among Chris Evert's siblings, her sister Jeanne Evert shared perhaps the closest bond with the tennis icon. A talented player in her own right, Jeanne enjoyed an outstanding junior and professional career, becoming one of America's brightest young prospects during the 1970s.

The sisters even reached the world's No. 4 doubles ranking together, proving talent clearly ran in the family. For opponents, facing one Evert was challenging enough. Facing two at the same net probably required a very strong backup plan.

After retiring from professional tennis, Jeanne Evert embraced family life with husband Brahm Dubin while continuing to contribute to the sport through coaching and the Delray Beach Tennis Center.

Even after losing her husband in 2006, she remained committed to both her children and the local tennis community. Her death from ovarian cancer in February 2020 deeply affected Chris, who has since spoken openly about how her sister's encouragement to undergo medical screening ultimately helped detect her own cancer early.

It became one final act of care that continues to resonate within the family. Today, Chris Evert's three sons have each followed very different paths while maintaining close relationships with both parents.

Eldest son Alexander "Alex" Mill initially pursued competitive skateboarding before shifting towards health and fitness. Now working as a CrossFit coach and athlete, he has also stayed connected to tennis through broadcasting alongside his mother and mentoring young players at the Evert Tennis Academy

Throughout Chris' cancer treatment, Alex remained one of her strongest supporters, proving encouragement does not always need to come from the sidelines of Centre Court.

Middle son Nicholas "Nicky" Mill built a career far away from tennis courts, turning his love of fishing and the outdoors into a full-time profession.

As a professional guide, media producer and co-host of the Mill House Podcast alongside his father Andy Mill, he has carved out his own successful niche. He also launched outdoor projects including Duck Camp Co. and The Guide's Guide, while his personal life reached a joyful milestone in 2022 when he married Rebecca

Two years later, the arrival of their son Hayden James Mill made Chris Evert a proud grandmother for the very first time. Grand Slam titles are impressive, but apparently becoming "Grandma" comes with a completely different trophy.

Youngest son Colton Mill has chosen a quieter life than his brothers. Although he enjoyed sports growing up and occasionally appeared alongside his family at charity events and tennis galas, he has largely stayed away from the public spotlight.

Unlike many children of famous athletes, Colton has preferred privacy over publicity, proving not every member of a sporting dynasty wants their every move documented. Sometimes avoiding headlines is the biggest achievement of all.

The renewed attention surrounding Chris & Martina: The Final Set has sparked widespread discussion online, with fans revisiting not only Chris Evert's remarkable tennis career but also the strength of the family behind it.

Many praised the unwavering support shown by Jimmy and Colette, while others expressed admiration for Jeanne Evert's lasting influence on her sister's health journey.

Viewers have also welcomed updates on Alex, Nicky and Colton, with many saying it is refreshing to see each of them build lives on their own terms rather than simply following in their mother's footsteps.

Across social media, reactions have ranged from heartfelt tributes to nostalgic memories of watching the Evert family during tennis' golden era. Although several key members of the Evert family are sadly no longer here, their influence continues to shape one of sport's most respected figures.

From Jimmy's coaching wisdom and Colette's unwavering support to Jeanne's lasting encouragement and the next generation forging their own identities, the Evert legacy extends well beyond championship trophies. Which member of Chris Evert's family story surprised you the most?
