Sun Zhenni and Yu ChengEn are reportedly heading straight into heartbreak territory with upcoming Chinese romance drama Blush Across Goodbyes (再见依然红着脸), and viewers are already emotionally exhausted despite the series not even starting production yet. The rumoured Mango TV (MGTV) project is quietly building momentum online thanks to its nostalgic first-love storyline, reunion romance setup and enough unresolved feelings to keep audiences staring dramatically out of windows for the next year.

Adapted from Zhu Zhi’s popular novel To the Lark (致云雀), the urban romance drama is expected to begin filming in Qingdao around mid-June 2026. The series is reportedly planned as a 24-episode production with episodes running around 35 minutes each, while filming itself is expected to last roughly 60 days.

Hunan TV and Mango TV are both tipped as the future broadcast platforms, meaning viewers should prepare themselves for another emotionally destructive youth romance disguised as “healing”.

Blush Across Goodbyes Could Be MGTV’s Next Big Urban Romance Hit

At the centre of the story is Zhu Yunque, a quiet high school girl who slowly falls for Lu Rangchen, the effortlessly charming and wildly popular student at Nancheng No. 3 High School. Naturally, because this is a youth romance drama and peace was never an option, their relationship does not unfold smoothly.

Lu Rangchen enters Yunque’s life, turns her ordinary school years into something unforgettable, then suddenly disappears without properly saying goodbye. Peak emotional damage behaviour, honestly.

The emotional hook of Blush Across Goodbyes lies in the small details rather than giant melodrama. While Yunque is sick, Lu Rangchen transfers away, leaving behind only a farewell message on her phone.

Their summer memories abruptly end there, unfinished and painfully awkward in the way first love usually is. Before everything completely falls apart, Yunque sends him three messages confessing her feelings and saying goodbye. But there is still one final message she never sends — a secret she carries with her for years afterwards.

And yes, viewers online are already treating that unsent message like it is a national mystery case.

Blush Across Goodbyes Cast Rumours Spark Buzz as Yu Chengen and Sun Zhenni Pair Up
Yu Chengen and Sun Zhenni Reportedly Lead MGTV Romance Drama Blush Across Goodbyes

The production is being described as a “broken mirror reunion” romance, a Chinese drama trope built entirely around separated couples reconnecting years later while pretending they are emotionally fine.

They are never emotionally fine. Between the themes of unrequited love, youth nostalgia, reunion heartbreak and adulthood regret, the series appears determined to emotionally corner everyone who has ever remembered an old text message at 2am and immediately regretted having feelings.

The possible pairing of Yu Chengen and Sun Zhenni has also sparked heavy discussion across drama communities.

Many viewers believe the two actors fit the “quiet girl and unreachable school crush” dynamic surprisingly well, especially given Sun Zhenni’s softer screen presence and Yu Chengen’s ability to play emotionally distant characters without saying much.

Some fans even joked that the casting already “looks expensive emotionally” before filming has begun. Others, however, remain cautiously optimistic. A number of viewers pointed out that reunion romances often begin beautifully before collapsing into twenty episodes of misunderstandings, rain scenes and characters refusing to communicate like functioning adults.

Many admitted the source material itself has enough emotional depth to carry the drama beyond standard youth-romance clichés. Some fans are already calling the drama one of the most anticipated urban romances of 2026, while others fear the adaptation may become “another aesthetically pretty trauma simulator”.

One viral comment joked that Chinese dramas continue to romanticise emotional suffering with suspicious efficiency, especially when paired with soft lighting and nostalgic soundtrack music.

Anticipation continues growing precisely because the premise feels emotionally grounded. Unlike louder fantasy-heavy romance projects currently dominating streaming discussions, Blush Across Goodbyes appears to focus on quieter emotions — missed timing, unfinished words and the lingering embarrassment of first love that never truly disappears.

It is less about grand romance and more about the uncomfortable reality that some people continue living in your memory rent-free for years.

The Qingdao filming location has also caught attention among viewers familiar with modern Chinese romance dramas. The coastal city has increasingly become a favourite backdrop for youth and urban romance productions thanks to its cinematic streets, seaside atmosphere and ability to make emotional scenes look painfully pretty.

Fans are already expecting endless bicycle rides, seaside conversations and at least one devastating reunion scene filmed during sunset because apparently production teams enjoy emotionally attacking audiences visually now.

For Sun Zhenni, the rumoured role could offer another opportunity to expand her acting profile beyond fantasy-heavy projects, while Yu Chengen continues building momentum among younger drama viewers who enjoy emotionally restrained male leads with unresolved feelings written all over their faces.

The pairing itself feels strategically aimed at audiences who grew up with school romance dramas but now want stories with slightly more emotional maturity and lingering melancholy. Which, frankly, sounds exactly like the kind of drama viewers swear they are tired of before immediately watching all 24 episodes in one weekend anyway.

So the real question now is simple — if your first love suddenly reappeared years later, would you finally send that last message, or keep pretending you moved on perfectly fine?
