Spider-Noir did not just turn heads because Nicolas Cage finally stepped into live-action as Marvel’s trench coat-wearing vigilante. The 2026 Prime Video series also made viewers obsess over its smoky streets, eerie mansions, vintage buildings and old-school noir atmosphere that somehow made 1930s New York look both glamorous and completely miserable at the same time. Turns out, most of that world was carefully recreated across different parts of California, where production quietly transformed sunny modern locations into crime-filled alleys straight out of a detective novel. And honestly, seeing palm trees hidden behind fake rain machines is probably the most Hollywood thing imaginable.

Filming for Spider-Noir reportedly ran from August 2024 until March 2025, with large sections shot across Los Angeles County, Santa Barbara County, and several historic districts that already looked like they belonged inside a black-and-white gangster film. Some exact locations were intentionally kept low-profile while production was ongoing, mainly because massive superhero projects tend to attract crowds faster than free concert tickets. Still, enough details have surfaced for fans already planning unofficial “Spider-Noir tours” across California.

One of the biggest filming bases for the series was the Fort MacArthur Museum in the San Pedro area of Los Angeles. The historic military site reportedly became one of the production’s most important backdrops, especially for sequences tied to the darker side of Ben Reilly’s investigations. The location’s ageing architecture, tunnels and coastal atmosphere fit perfectly with the series’ noir aesthetic.

San Pedro itself has long been a favourite filming spot for Hollywood productions wanting old industrial energy without needing to digitally erase every modern skyscraper in sight.

Around the same area, production also utilised sections of the Port of Los Angeles and the historic Harbor Boulevard district, which added extra gritty street scenery for chase scenes and underground dealings.

The series also transformed parts of Downtown Los Angeles into a stylised version of 1930s Manhattan. Several older buildings around the Historic Core district reportedly appeared throughout the show, particularly during Ben Reilly’s detective work and late-night street sequences.

The production team leaned heavily into vintage signage, old vehicles and rain-soaked pavements to create the illusion of Depression-era New York. Some fans online joked that Los Angeles spent years trying to look futuristic in films, only for Hollywood to immediately cover everything in fake fog and pretend it was 1933 again.

Another key filming destination was Santa Barbara County, where production captured some of the series’ more cinematic outdoor scenes. The city of Santa Barbara itself reportedly hosted multiple shoots thanks to its preserved architecture and quieter streets.

While the series is emotionally heavy and packed with corruption, the irony is that several scenes were filmed in one of California’s most beautiful coastal areas. Classic Hollywood behaviour, honestly.

The production also transformed stretches of Figueroa Mountain Road into atmospheric driving routes seen throughout the series. The winding roads, isolated hills and dramatic scenery reportedly helped establish the lonely emotional tone surrounding Ben Reilly’s personal downfall.

The mountainous regions around Los Olivos and Solvang were also reportedly utilised during production. These areas brought a more isolated visual texture to the series, particularly for flashback moments and scenes connected to Ben Reilly’s troubled past.

Their vintage-inspired streets and old-world architecture blended surprisingly well with the noir style. Some viewers even admitted online they were distracted trying to figure out whether they were watching a superhero drama or a very expensive detective tourism advert for California.

Meanwhile, the city of Alhambra became another major production hub for Spider-Noir. The standout location there was Wrensmoor Castle at 1700 Grand View Drive, which was transformed into several fictional interiors and exterior settings within the show.

The gothic-style mansion reportedly plays a major role in the series’ criminal underworld storyline, especially involving Silvermane, played by Brendan Gleeson.

The castle’s dramatic design already looks suspicious enough without any cinematic lighting, so naturally it became perfect for a noir series full of secrets, betrayals and morally questionable people wearing expensive coats.

Additional scenes were reportedly filmed throughout the San Gabriel Valley, including sections of Pasadena and Monterey Park, where production crews modified streets with vintage storefronts, classic vehicles and period-inspired advertisements.

These locations helped expand the illusion of an alternate-universe New York while avoiding heavy reliance on CGI. Fans particularly praised the practical sets after the trailer dropped, with many saying the series felt more immersive than recent superhero projects overloaded with green screens and floating sky portals.

Of course, audiences are not only talking about the filming locations. The cast itself has generated huge conversation online. Nicolas Cage returning to the Spider-Noir role after voicing the character in the animated Spider-Verse films instantly became one of the series’ biggest selling points.

Fans have especially praised his exhausted detective performance, with many saying he somehow makes looking emotionally destroyed appear oddly stylish.

Meanwhile, Jack Huston’s version of Sandman, Lamorne Morris as Robbie Robertson, and Li Jun Li as Cat Hardy have all attracted strong reactions across social media discussions.

Viewer reactions to the series’ visual style have also been wildly divided in the best possible way. Some fans are completely obsessed with the black-and-white presentation option, calling it one of the boldest things Marvel-related projects have attempted in years.

Others admitted they switched back to colour after one episode because they “wanted to actually see people’s faces”. Either way, people are talking about it, which is exactly what Prime Video probably wanted from the start.

ICYMI: Shows Like Spider Noir

What makes Spider-Noir stand out is how seriously it commits to its atmosphere. This is not a cheerful teenage superhero story filled with awkward school dances and multiverse chaos every ten minutes.

The series fully embraces smoky clubs, exhausted detectives, dangerous criminals and emotionally damaged characters wandering through rain at 2am questioning every life choice they have ever made. Somehow, California managed to convincingly become a haunting version of 1930s New York through all of it.

And honestly, these filming locations might now become accidental tourist hotspots thanks to the series. Between the gothic mansions, vintage streets and dramatic mountain roads, the production accidentally created one of the most aesthetically tempting travel lists of the year.

If more locations from Spider-Noir eventually surface, fans will absolutely keep digging for them faster than Ben Reilly investigating another suspicious alleyway. So if you had the chance, which filming location from Spider-Noir would you actually want to visit first?
