| Is There More Than One Rodan? Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 Finale Sparks Big Monsterverse Twist. (Credits: Apple TV) |
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters does not waste time playing coy in its Season 2 finale. It drops a full-on Monsterverse curveball by teasing the return of Rodan, but with a twist that immediately complicates everything fans thought they knew. This is not just another cameo or nostalgic callback. This is a strategic reset, and frankly, a slightly alarming one.
Created by Chris Black and Matt Fraction, the Apple TV+ series leans deeper into Titan mythology this season, introducing Titan X, a creature initially framed as a looming threat but ultimately revealed to be more misunderstood than malicious.
The story pivots around its instinct to protect its egg, with Cate and the Monarch crew helping it retreat safely to the mysterious Axis Mundi. It is a surprisingly gentle conclusion for a Titan arc, which is exactly why the final reveal hits harder than expected.
Because just as things settle, the show pulls the rug. Enter Rodan. Not the same chaos-bringer from Godzilla: King of the Monsters, but something more intriguing — and potentially more dangerous in the long run.
The version spotted by Lee appears to be a female Rodan, likely a counterpart rather than a duplicate. That distinction matters. The Monsterverse has already established Titan pairings, and this fits the pattern. But what does not quite fit is her behaviour.
Unlike the notoriously destructive Rodan that erupted from the Isla de Mara volcano and flattened everything in sight, this new Rodan is… oddly restrained. For now.
Locals reportedly treat her as an ancient presence, even revering her in the same way villages followed Titan X.
That mix of reverence and fear suggests a creature that operates on its own terms rather than pure aggression.
Which, if anything, is more unsettling. A Titan that chooses when to strike is far harder to predict than one that simply destroys on instinct.
Of course, it would not be Rodan without a reminder of just how catastrophic things could get. Known as the “fire demon,” Rodan’s ability to generate cyclonic shockwaves and firestorms is not just cinematic flair.
It is city-ending power. The fact that this version has only just awakened raises a bigger question: is this calm phase temporary, or is Monarch dealing with a Titan that has learned restraint?
The geographical detail quietly adds another layer. The show hints that this Rodan may be located somewhere in Thailand, positioned almost directly opposite Isla de Mara on the globe.
That is not random trivia. It ties into the expanding concept of planetary rifts and the still-mysterious pathways of the Hollow Earth.
Lee has not fully cracked that system yet, but the breadcrumbs are there, and Rodan’s migration could be the key piece of the puzzle.
His decision to keep Keiko out of the latest mission also raises eyebrows. Either he is protecting her, or he knows this situation could spiral far beyond Titan X levels of danger.
Fan reactions have been anything but quiet. Some are fully on board with the idea of multiple Rodans, calling it a smart expansion of Monsterverse lore rather than a retread. Others are side-eyeing the “peaceful Rodan” angle, arguing it feels like calm before inevitable destruction.
A few are already speculating that this could lead to a larger Titan hierarchy storyline, where creatures are not just reacting to humans but actively shaping the balance of power on Earth. And yes, there is also that crowd asking the obvious question: if there is one more Rodan, how many more are out there?
What is clear is that Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is no longer just filling gaps between films. It is actively reshaping the stakes.
By reintroducing Rodan in a more layered, unpredictable form, the series edges closer to the timeline of the Godzilla films while carving out its own identity. And if this really is just the beginning of Rodan’s return, then the next chapter is unlikely to stay this calm for long.
ICYMI: Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 3.
So, is this new Rodan an ally, a ticking time bomb, or something in between? And more importantly, are we looking at a full Titan resurgence hiding in plain sight? Drop your take, pick a side, and let’s see who called it first when the fire demon decides to make her move.
