The latest season of 90 Day Fiancé barely needed a few episodes before viewers locked onto Marissa Rubinetti and Edward Miguel Gomez, a couple who somehow manage to look deeply in love while also appearing one awkward dinner conversation away from emotional collapse. TLC clearly knew what it was doing here. Put a fast-moving New York business executive together with a laid-back Dominican man who prefers calm beaches over Manhattan chaos, then watch audiences immediately start choosing sides online.

Their relationship began during Marissa’s girls’ trip to Punta Cana, where she met Edward almost by accident. According to the show, the connection moved quickly from holiday flirtation into a serious long-distance romance. By February 2025, Edward had proposed, and Marissa said yes. At the time, it sounded like a classic reality-TV fairytale.

Sunsets, emotional airport reunions, dramatic music in the background and someone whispering “this feels different” every seven minutes. Standard procedure.

But once Edward arrived in New York, reality arrived with him. The pace of the city appeared to hit him immediately, with the Dominican native visibly overwhelmed by the nonstop energy of Manhattan life. Marissa, meanwhile, started facing a different type of pressure.

Suddenly, the fantasy relationship from tropical holidays had to survive real routines, family expectations and the uncomfortable fact that love becomes slightly less cinematic when somebody’s judging you over dinner reservations.

90 Day Fiancé Season 12 quickly highlighted the tension surrounding their different social and financial backgrounds. Marissa comes from an affluent environment tied closely to New York’s professional and social circles, while Edward’s life back in the Dominican Republic was considerably more relaxed.

The contrast created some of the season’s most emotionally charged moments, especially when Edward struggled to feel accepted around Marissa’s family and her ex-husband. Viewers could practically feel the second-hand discomfort through the screen.

One of the most talked-about scenes came after Marissa admitted their relationship “didn’t feel the same” after Edward moved to the United States.

It was the kind of conversation that instantly sent fans into detective mode online, analysing facial expressions like they were reviewing evidence in a courtroom drama. Edward pushed her to be honest about her feelings, while Marissa admitted she was uncertain about what she truly wanted moving forward.

Despite the emotional turbulence shown onscreen, the pair still appear to be together away from the cameras. Their social media activity has continued to fuel speculation that the relationship survived the roughest parts of filming.

The two frequently share photos together, from romantic dinners to gym sessions and beach holidays. Their posts give off the energy of a couple determined to prove that love can survive long distance, family pressure and reality television editing. Honestly, surviving TLC alone already deserves a medal.

In one particularly affectionate birthday tribute, Marissa called Edward “the most wonderful person I’ve ever known,” while Edward has openly reflected on the emotional challenges of maintaining a relationship across countries.

His comments about distance being “a test of real love” earned praise from supporters online, although sceptical viewers quickly pointed out that inspirational captions are basically part of the 90 Day Fiancé starter pack at this stage.

By August 2025, Marissa revealed that Edward had officially arrived in the United States to begin their “next chapter.” Later posts from March 2026 hinted that the pair remained together after filming wrapped.

Fans also noticed how often the two bonded over fitness and shared routines, with workouts, coffee dates and travel moments becoming regular parts of their online presence.

Compared with some past franchise couples who seemed to communicate mainly through arguments and passive-aggressive Instagram Stories, Marissa and Edward almost look surprisingly stable.

Away from reality television, Marissa Rubinetti has built a high-profile professional career spanning more than two decades in the bridal and fashion industry.

After graduating from Fordham University with a degree in Business Administration and Management, she climbed through executive roles at David’s Bridal and later Kleinfeld Bridal. Eventually, she launched her own company, The Ruby Standard, in March 2026. The career trajectory alone feels exhausting to read, never mind live through.

Alongside her business success, Marissa is also known for her dedication to fitness and marathon running. She completed the Philly Love Run half-marathon in 2023 and frequently shares fitness-related updates online.

Yet despite her demanding career, much of her personal life revolves around her two sons, Derek and Cole. Family holidays, beach trips and celebrations appear regularly across her social platforms, showing a softer side that contrasts with the polished executive image viewers first saw onscreen.

Marissa also experienced personal heartbreak following the passing of her father, Frank Rubinetti, in December 2024 after a lung-related illness.

Friends and family reportedly became a major source of support during the difficult period, something viewers say may explain why she appears emotionally guarded at times throughout the season.

Several fans online have expressed sympathy for the pressure she seemed to carry while navigating grief, parenting, career responsibilities and a televised international relationship all at once. Quite a lot for one person before breakfast, frankly.

As for Edward Miguel Gomez, much of his recent professional life remains private. Before relocating to New York, he worked in the hospitality sector as a hotel concierge in the Dominican Republic, a role that suited his outgoing personality.

The job also helped explain why he initially came across as calm, charming and naturally social on television. Since moving to the United States, however, Edward has kept details about his career largely out of public view, leading fans to speculate about what direction his life has taken after the show.

Online reactions to the couple remain deeply divided. Some viewers believe Marissa and Edward genuinely care for one another and simply underestimated how difficult merging two different worlds could become. Others think the relationship exposes deeper incompatibilities linked to class, lifestyle and expectations.

Social media discussions have also criticised Marissa’s family for appearing overly judgemental, while some viewers argued Edward occasionally seemed unprepared for the realities of relocating internationally. Basically, everybody watching has become an unpaid relationship expert overnight.

Still, there is no denying that the couple has become one of the breakout talking points of 90 Day Fiancé Season 12. Their storyline blends romance, ambition, awkward family tension and culture shock in a way that feels messy enough to stay believable.

Whether Marissa and Edward ultimately become one of the franchise’s rare success stories or another cautionary tale about holiday romance moving far too quickly, audiences clearly cannot stop watching.

So now the big question is simple: are these two genuinely built to last, or are fans witnessing another TLC romance heading straight for chaos with extra camera angles?
