Chinese actress Lu Yuxiao has suddenly found herself trapped in the kind of online storm that spreads faster than a spoiler clip on drama Twitter. The rising star, best known for gaining attention through My Journey to You, is now facing accusations of being “unprofessional” on set after several behind-the-scenes videos from upcoming costume drama Dancing with the Tide (何不同舟渡) exploded across Chinese social media this week.

Her studio, meanwhile, has clearly decided that enough is enough and is now preparing legal action against users accused of spreading what they call manipulated and defamatory content. The controversy snowballed after multiple clips allegedly showing awkward filming moments began circulating online.

In one of the most discussed videos, Lu Yuxiao was filming a romantic scene opposite actor Tan Jianci. The pair’s characters were apparently meant to admire fireworks after a conversation, but viewers quickly zoomed in on the fact that Lu Yuxiao seemed more interested in staring at Tan Jianci than the imaginary fireworks themselves.

According to online chatter, the director repeatedly reminded the actors where to look, leading to another retake. Naturally, the internet reacted as though she had single-handedly delayed world peace negotiations rather than one television scene.

What Happened Between Lu Yuxiao and Dancing with the Tide Production

Another clip triggered fresh criticism after Lu Yuxiao appeared to hold a knife incorrectly during a hostage sequence.

The director was reportedly forced to correct her positioning on set, which immediately became fresh ammunition for critics claiming she slowed down production through repeated NGs, the industry term for failed takes requiring reshoots.

In the world of Chinese entertainment gossip, even holding a prop the wrong way for three seconds can apparently become a national discussion topic by lunchtime.

The situation escalated further when another behind-the-scenes video showed the actress recording a dance clip while still dressed in funeral costume attire from the drama.

Why Lu Yuxiao Is Facing Backlash Over Viral Filming Videos From Dancing with the Tide

Some online users accused her of wasting production time while crew members allegedly waited nearby. Others mocked the contrast between the sombre wardrobe and cheerful dancing, with several sarcastically calling it “multitasking idol energy.” Social media, as always, remained deeply committed to turning every set interaction into a courtroom drama.

Then came the fan-edit discourse, because modern celebrity controversy is apparently incomplete without saved edits becoming evidence.

Some C-netz noticed that Lu Yuxiao had reportedly saved a fan-made kissing scene compilation involving herself and Tan Jianci. This immediately fuelled speculation that she had become too emotionally invested during filming.

Realistically, saving fan edits is hardly unusual in fandom culture, but the internet rarely lets context interrupt a trending narrative once people have already chosen their side.

Why Chinese Netizens Are Debating Lu Yuxiao After Viral Drama Set Clips

In response, Lu Yuxiao’s studio issued a strongly worded statement denying every major accusation being circulated online.

According to the management team, claims that the actress forced co-stars or crew members to wait seven hours during production were entirely false.

The studio also rejected allegations suggesting she frequently ignored staff instructions or intentionally disrupted filming schedules.

The statement argued that the viral clips had been maliciously edited, stripped of context, and reposted specifically to damage the actress’s public image.

Management insisted that ordinary filming adjustments and casual on-set moments were selectively stitched together to create a misleading narrative around her professionalism.

In short, they are accusing the internet of doing what the internet unfortunately does best: turning fragmented moments into a full cinematic scandal with zero patience for nuance.

On May 6, the situation became more serious when the studio confirmed that legal preparations had officially begun. Through lawyer Yang Shuguang, the agency announced that evidence collection had already been completed and notarised against several online accounts accused of spreading defamatory material.

Lawsuits are reportedly being prepared to pursue legal responsibility against individuals involved in distributing the allegations.

Fans of Lu Yuxiao quickly rallied behind her online, arguing that occasional mistakes during filming are completely normal, especially in complicated historical dramas involving props, choreography, and technical blocking.

Many pointed out that actors regularly require multiple takes even on major productions, though those moments usually stay hidden behind editing rooms instead of being uploaded frame-by-frame onto social media for public dissection.

Others also defended her over the saved fan edits, explaining that the actress has a long history of interacting with edits from various projects and co-stars, not exclusively content involving Tan Jianci.

Despite the backlash, Lu Yuxiao’s popularity remains significant, especially among younger drama viewers who discovered her through My Journey to You and later projects such as Love in the Clouds (入青云) opposite Hou Minghao

For now, the studio seems determined to push back aggressively against the allegations, while social media continues debating every clip like unpaid production supervisors..

So, what do you think — harmless filming mistakes blown wildly out of proportion, or a genuine professionalism issue hiding in plain sight?
