The dating rumours linking Huang Yang Tiantian to idol Zhang Zeyu have been firmly shut down, with her studio stepping in on 3 May to call the claims outright false and, more pointedly, a form of harassment.

The statement lands after weeks of online noise, where a messy fan clash dragged the young actress into a narrative she clearly never signed up for.

According to her management, Huang Yang Tiantian remains single and has “no contact, no interaction, and no connection whatsoever” with the individual named in circulating posts.

In other words, not even a casual overlap, let alone a secret romance.

The agency stressed that all claims spreading across platforms like Weibo and Douban are fabricated, adding a polite but firm reminder that online disagreements should not spill into creating fiction about uninvolved people.

The rumours themselves did not appear out of thin air. They grew out of an ongoing fan dispute involving supporters of different idols, where competitive narratives escalated into personal speculation.

As is often the case, a third party became convenient collateral. The spark behind the chaos is a long-running fan clash between supporters of Zhang Ji and Zhang Zeyu, where both sides have spent weeks trading claims and dragging Huang Yang Tian Tian into the narrative with fabricated dating rumours.

What started on Douban quietly snowballed, before flaring up again on Weibo last night, turning into a full-blown online mess. With her name repeatedly used as a tool in the back-and-forth. It was another actress the other day.

This time, it was Huang Yang Tiantian, whose name was repeatedly inserted into the conversation through so-called “evidence” that ranged from coincidence to outright invention.

Her studio’s response did not try to dress things up. It made clear that she is focused on her career planning and development, with no time or interest in entertaining these distractions.

The wording was direct, almost clinical, likely by design. When rumours move fast, clarity needs to move faster.

The situation has also reignited discussion about online fan culture, and not in a flattering way. A significant portion of netizens criticised the behaviour, calling out how quickly fictional narratives can spiral into something that looks real if repeated often enough.

Many expressed frustration that a young actress, still early in her career, is repeatedly pulled into controversies that have little to do with her actual work.

Others, however, were less convinced by the timing of the statement. Some questioned whether the response also served to redirect attention from previous controversies surrounding the actress, suggesting her team could have intervened earlier before the rumours gained traction

It is the usual split: one side sees a clear victim of online excess, the other reads it as calculated damage control.

Her studio’s closing note urged for more rational and kind online behaviour, which, while reasonable, might be asking a bit much from platforms that thrive on quick reactions and louder voices. Still, the message is clear: disagree if you must, but dragging unrelated people into fictional storylines is not it.

What do you reckon — fair warning shot from the studio, or too little too late?
