SBS has quietly dropped one of spring’s most entertaining curveballs with Sold Out On You (오늘도 매진했습니다), a Korean drama that throws glossy retail ambition into the middle of a sleepy village and somehow makes it work.

Premiering on 22 April 2026 and streaming on Netflix, the 12-episode romantic comedy has quickly become a talking point thanks to its unusual setup, sharp cast line-up and the sort of relationship chaos viewers pretend to dislike but absolutely tune in for.

At the centre of the story is Matthew Lee, played by Ahn Hyo Seop, a farmer whose life is far more complicated than mud boots and sunrise routines suggest.

He runs a rare mushroom farm, oversees a natural cosmetics business and leads research into valuable skincare ingredients.

Basically, he is a countryside overachiever who probably makes everyone else feel lazy without even trying. Matthew lives by structure and routine until his peace is interrupted by a sports car, a business proposal and one very stressed television host.

That host is Dam Ye Jin, played by Chae Won Bin, a top home shopping presenter whose sales record is as strong as her exhaustion levels. Ye Jin is ambitious, polished and highly successful, but years of relentless work have left her battling chronic insomnia.

She arrives in Matthew’s village seeking a contract for his rare ingredients, only to discover that business plans are much easier than handling a stubborn man with opinions and a tractor.

Their relationship chart starts with conflict, naturally. He values calm, she lives in chaos. He trusts routine, she survives on pressure.

He drives farm machinery, she turns up in a sleek car like she is entering the wrong drama entirely. But beneath the bickering and culture clash sits the real hook of Sold Out On You: two people who appear successful on paper but quietly feel something missing.

Then comes Eric Seo, played by Kim Bum, because no modern romance is apparently allowed to proceed in peace. Eric is a cosmetics executive with global reach, polished instincts and enough presence to complicate every room he enters.

His connection to Ye Jin and business interest in Matthew’s products place him right in the middle of the emotional mess.

Whether he is a genuine rival, a misunderstood second lead or simply a very stylish problem depends on how long the writers choose to keep viewers stressed.

The wider character map adds plenty of texture. Jo Woo Ri plays Moon Ae Ra, expected to bring another layer of workplace and personal tension.

Veteran actress Go Doo Shim appears as Song Hak Daek, adding authority and warmth to village life. Jo Bok Rae as Park Gwang Mo, Seo Jin Won as Jeon Won Taek, Yoon Jae Chan as Hwang Gi Hong, Yoon Byung Hee as Kim Mu Won, Park Ah In as Pi Un Mi, Park Ye Young as Um Seong Mi, Yang Heung Joo as O Gong Il, and Shin Dong Mi as Dong Hyeon help fill out both the corporate and rural worlds.

Even the bit-part casting, including Byeon Chang Yeol as the village foreman, suggests the drama knows supporting characters matter.

One of the cleverest parts of the show is how it contrasts two worlds without forcing it. Seoul’s commercial pressure and endless performance culture are set against the slower rhythm of village life in Deokpung

The result is not just pretty scenery, but a genuine clash of values. Ye Jin sells everything yet cannot rest.

Matthew has built something real yet keeps people at a distance. It is romcom territory, yes, but with enough emotional grounding to avoid feeling disposable.

Another detail drawing attention is that Sold Out On You is a fully original screenplay, not adapted from a webtoon or web novel. In today’s drama market, that alone stands out.

It means viewers cannot run off to spoil the ending after episode two, and no one can claim the source material was better before the halfway mark. A rare luxury.

Fan and netizen reactions have been mixed in the most predictable way possible. Many viewers are loving the chemistry between Ahn Hyo Seop and Chae Won Bin, praising the fresh pairing and playful tension. Others are already campaigning for Kim Bum to stop being trapped in love triangle territory and simply win for once.

Some viewers say the premise sounds gloriously ridiculous, while others argue that ridiculous is exactly what makes television fun. Several comments also praise the healing countryside visuals, calling it a welcome break from darker, heavier dramas.

There has also been chatter around Chae Won Bin, with audiences noting that this could be a breakout leading-role moment after years of memorable supporting performances.

Meanwhile, Ahn Hyo Seop continues to prove he can carry mainstream romance with ease, and Kim Bum remains dangerously effective at making viewers sympathise with whichever side he is on.

With only 12 episodes planned, pacing should stay tight and avoid the usual mid-season wandering that affects many longer series. That alone may be the best plot twist of all.

Sold Out On You airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 9pm on SBS, with streaming availability on Netflix. If the early buzz holds, this could become one of 2026’s sleeper romcom hits. Are you backing Matthew Lee, rooting for Eric Seo, or simply watching for the village drama and passive-aggressive flirting?
