| Love Upon a Time Episode 4 Review & Recap: Secrets, Time Travel Clues and One Very Suspicious Market Encounter. (Credits: iQIYI) |
The dream rattles Nakhun enough to start asking questions, though Chuay immediately shuts him down with the classic “some things are better left unsaid” approach, which in drama logic usually means everything absolutely needs to be said.
Still unsettled, Nakhun is dragged into daily routines, including a canal bath he clearly did not sign up for. Phop, never missing a chance to stir things, goads him into joining, proving once again that subtlety is not his strongest trait.
In Love upon a Time Episode 4, a temple visit follows, and visually it is all calm beauty, but emotionally it hits differently. Lady Prayong reveals that Klao’s father had ties to powerful figures before everything collapsed, adding another layer to the already suspicious case.
Nakhun, meanwhile, is left confused by how deeply he feels Klao’s grief, as if the emotions are not borrowed but shared. It is less “time travel curiosity” and more “identity crisis loading”.
Things spiral quickly when a public commotion draws attention, and against advice, Nakhun steps right into it. The crowd’s hostility towards Klao triggers fragmented memories, and then comes the twist: the fortune teller appears again, or rather her past self.
She drops another cryptic hint about a promise and a wish, clearly aware that Nakhun is out of place in time. It is all very mysterious, very poetic, and very unhelpful in terms of actual answers.
Frustration finally boils over when Nakhun calls out Phop for being overbearing. It is one of the more grounded moments of the episode, cutting through the fantasy with something painfully real.
Care and control are not the same thing, and Nakhun makes it clear he is done being handled like a fragile artefact. Even Prayong backs this up, subtly telling Phop to rethink how he shows affection, because right now it is doing more harm than good.
Left alone, Nakhun switches into problem-solving mode. Armed with half-remembered theories about time travel missions, he decides his purpose is to uncover the truth behind Klao’s story.
It is oddly academic for someone stuck in the past, but it works. With help from Kong, he starts documenting everything, turning confusion into something resembling a plan.
The quieter moments do not stay quiet for long. Phop returns with imported oranges, clearly expecting to impress, only for Nakhun to casually point out that fruit is not exactly rare where he comes from.
The scene shifts from mildly awkward to unexpectedly intimate when Phop wipes ink off Nakhun’s face, lingering just long enough to make things complicated before reality crashes back in thanks to loud snoring outside. Romance, but make it inconvenient.
Back at the clinic, a softer subplot unfolds between Jom and Khaew, though it is not without its own awkwardness.
In Love upon a Time Episode 4, Khaew’s question about memory loss leads to a response from Jom that starts heartfelt and ends painfully practical. It is sweet, then not, then confusing again, leaving Khaew questioning whether duty is all there is.
Nakhun’s investigation takes another emotional hit when he learns more about Klao’s father’s punishment. The misunderstanding about “slashing” versus “lashing” would almost be funny if the reality were not so brutal.
Khaew quietly confirms what the story has been hinting all along: the man was likely innocent, but truth lost to public judgement. It is less justice and more reputation collapse.
The episode closes with a sharp shift in tone. Determined to act, Nakhun heads to the market despite warnings, dragging Chuay along with him. What starts as a simple outing quickly turns tense when he intervenes in a harassment situation.
The real shock, though, comes from the aggressor’s reaction. The man looks at Nakhun as if he has seen a ghost, frozen in fear, backing away without explanation. It is the kind of reaction that does not happen without history, and suddenly the mystery feels much bigger than one wrongful accusation.
From a performance angle, JJ continues to carry the emotional weight with surprising ease.
His ability to switch from comedic confusion to quiet devastation keeps the episode engaging, even when the plot leans heavily on unanswered questions. The humour lands naturally, especially in moments where Nakhun’s modern perspective clashes with historical norms, but it never undercuts the emotional stakes.
Among viewers, reactions are split but lively. Some are fully invested in the slow-burn mystery, praising the layered storytelling and character tension, while others are starting to side-eye the constant stream of cryptic clues with no immediate payoff.
The dynamic between Nakhun and Phop is also sparking debate, with some calling it compelling and others quietly hoping Phop learns to take a step back sooner rather than later.
What Episode 4 does well is raise the stakes without pretending to resolve anything. The wrongful conviction, the hinted conspiracy, the time travel mission, and now a man who reacts to Klao like he should not exist at all, it is all stacking up fast.
The real question is whether the series will deliver answers as effectively as it delivers intrigue. And honestly, if that final scene did not make you pause and rethink everything, you might want to watch it again and tell us what you think, because something here is definitely not adding up.
Where to watch? For international viewers keen to keep up, Episode 4 of Love Upon a Time is available to stream on iQIYI, complete with English subtitles, making it an easy pick for fans following Nakhun’s increasingly tangled journey across time and truth.
