Apple TV+'s Imperfect Women wrapped its first run with a neat answer to the central murder but left just enough emotional chaos to keep viewers side-eyeing that "limited series" tag. Officially, there's no green light for Season 2.

Unofficially, the door is very much ajar, with creator Annie Weisman and leading names like Elisabeth Moss and Kerry Washington openly keen to dive back in. If the platform does pull the trigger, industry chatter points to a likely return window around 2028.

At its core, the series—adapted from Araminta Hall’s novel—was never just about who killed Nancy l. It was about the slow, messy collapse of a friendship between Eleanor, Mary, and Nancy herself, told through secrets, guilt, and the kind of truths that ruin dinner parties.

The finale may have solved the crime, but it left emotional threads dangling, particularly that eyebrow-raising final moment between Mary and Robert. Minimal interaction all season, then suddenly… that look. Subtle? Not really. Intentional? Absolutely.

If a second happens, the most straightforward route would be to unpack that unexpected dynamic.

A deeper look into Mary and Robert’s connection could shift the tone from murder mystery to emotional fallout, exploring how their bond formed behind the scenes and why it risks detonating what's left of Eleanor's world.

The challenge, however, is narrative logic. Season 1 already delivered significant character growth, especially for Eleanor, so rewinding that progress just to stir more drama season could feel like a step backwards rather than a bold continuation.

That's why a prequel angle is quietly gaining traction among viewers. Instead of pushing forward, Season 2 could rewind to the early days of Eleanor, Mary, and Nancy, unpacking how their friendship was built before it spectacularly unravelled.

It's a cleaner creative move, giving writers room to expand character psychology without undoing the emotional closure already earned. And let's be honest, audiences rarely complain about getting more context when the characters are this complicated.

Then there's the anthology option, arguably the most flexible—and safest—direction.

With the central mystery resolved and no sequel source material from Araminta Hall, the series could pivot entirely, introducing a new group of flawed, fascinating women tangled in another high-stakes secret. Same tone, new faces, fresh chaos.

It's a format that has worked across the industry, and it would allow Imperfect Women to keep its identity without being trapped by its original storyline.

Casting would hinge entirely on which path Apple TV+ chooses. If the story continues directly, expect Elisabeth MossKerry Washington, and Joel Kinnaman to return, alongside familiar supporting players like Jackson Kelly, Leslie Odom Jr., and Audrey Zahn.

Even characters who met their end— Kate Mara's Nancy and Corey Stoll's Howard —could easily resurface through flashbacks or psychological echoes, a device the show has already flirted with.

Meanwhile, Wilson Bethel's Scott, who barely scratched the surface in Season 1, could find himself upgraded to a more central role, especially in any past-timeline storytelling.

fans and online chatter, reactions are split right down the middle. Some viewers argue the series should end where it did—tight, complete, and refreshingly finite in an era of endless extensions. Others are already dissecting that final scene like it's a hidden code, convinced Season 2 is not just possible but necessary.

There's also a growing camp firmly backing the anthology route, largely because it avoids the risk of overstretching a story that, technically, Among them has already said what it needed to say.

For now, Imperfect Women Season 2 sits in that familiar limbo between “finished” and “not quite done,” where audience demand, cast interest, and platform strategy will ultimately decide its fate.

Whether it returns as a continuation, a rewind, or a full reset, one thing is clear—the appetite for more of this sharply observed, quietly brutal storytelling hasn't gone anywhere.

The real question is whether Apple TV+ sees it the same way. So, would you stick with Eleanor and Mary , or are you ready for a brand-new set of secrets?
