At first, Sherlock and Moriarty believe they are simply dealing with a vengeful infiltrator. But the investigation takes a dramatic turn when they discover someone far more powerful orchestrating events behind the scenes.
That mastermind turns out to be Silas Holmes, Sherlock’s own father.
Silas had secretly purchased Malik’s research and planned to profit from the chemical weapon by selling it abroad. Even worse, his involvement ties directly into the greatest tragedy in Sherlock’s family history — the supposed death of Sherlock’s younger sister Beatrice.
As the confrontation unfolds, Sherlock learns the truth. Beatrice never died. Silas staged her death years earlier in order to manipulate the family’s finances and gain control of Cordelia Holmes’ inheritance.
The plan was cruel but calculated. Beatrice was secretly sent away and raised by another family, while Silas allowed everyone to believe she had died. The grief pushed Cordelia into a mental breakdown, which Silas then used to justify placing her in an institution and controlling her wealth.
In the present day, Beatrice had unknowingly been working alongside Silas after reconnecting with him as an adult. However, during the final confrontation she finally realises how deeply he manipulated her life.

The climax takes place near a cliffside confrontation where Sherlock, Beatrice and Xiao Wei corner Silas.
Silas attempts to escape responsibility one last time. During a struggle with Sherlock, he lets himself fall from the cliff edge. Whether it was a desperate move or a calculated trick remains unclear.
The series never shows his body, leaving the door open to the possibility that Silas Holmes may still be alive.
Meanwhile, Xiao Wei achieves her revenge by destroying the underground laboratory connected to the chemical weapon project. With her mission complete, she returns to her homeland, where she discovers her sister has survived after all.
