A new Chinese romance drama titled Love Song in Summer (明川有知夏) is gaining early traction ahead of production, driven by speculation that Johnny Huang (Huang Jingyu) and Xu Ruohan could headline the project. The drama, backed by iQIYI and Jinhe Pictures, is scheduled to begin filming in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, with a planned 93-day shoot and a 32-episode run.
While the casting remains unconfirmed, the pairing alone has been enough to push the drama into early discussion across fan communities, especially given Huang Jingyu’s established screen presence and Xu Ruohan’s rising profile in recent romance titles.
Adapted from Su Xing’an’s novel, the story centres on Wen Xia and Li Zechuan, a pairing built on contrast and timing rather than immediate compatibility.
Their first meeting takes place during university years, where Wen Xia’s direct and fearless pursuit clashes with Li Zechuan’s distant, guarded personality. At that stage, the relationship feels one-sided, almost naïve, but the narrative deliberately plants seeds for something more enduring.
The real shift comes years later.
Their reunion in Hoh Xil reframes both characters. Li Zechuan is no longer just the aloof figure from Wen Xia’s past, but a man carrying responsibility as an environmental protector, operating in isolation and under pressure.

At the same time, the project sits alongside another adaptation, Jin Yin Cuo, directed by Lu Haojiji and linked to different casting, adding a layer of confusion in early reports.
For now, Love Song in Summer remains its own separate production, with its own narrative and team, despite overlapping discussions in online spaces.
Public reaction has been mixed but active. Some viewers are already invested in the potential pairing of Huang Jingyu and Xu Ruohan, citing their contrasting screen styles as a strong foundation for chemistry.
