WeTV Thailand has confirmed it is pursuing legal action against Smart Chisanupong Puangmanee, a rising face from Top Form The Series, accusing the actor of breaching a binding five-year exclusive management contract. The company says the case has already been accepted by courts across multiple jurisdictions, including in China, marking a serious escalation in a dispute that is now rippling through the Thai BL industry.

According to an official statement, WeTV and its partner Headliner Thailand claim they discovered and developed Smart Chisanupong Puangmanee, placing him in key productions under an exclusive agreement still considered active.

The company alleges that Smart Chisanupong unilaterally terminated the contract and proceeded to accept commercial work with third parties without approval, actions they argue directly violate the terms of their deal.

The statement goes further, pointing to third-party collaborators who allegedly continued to work with Smart despite being aware of the contractual conflict.

WeTV maintains that such decisions have caused significant damage to its business interests, prompting legal filings in Beijing, Guangzhou, and other relevant jurisdictions.

All cases, the company says, have now been formally accepted and will proceed through the courts.

At the centre of the fallout is Top Form The Series, a project now caught in limbo.

The disruption has also affected Tharathon “Boom” Phumphothingam, Smart’s on-screen partner, who many viewers see as collateral damage in a dispute he has no control over.

Promotional activities tied to the series have stalled, raising questions about the future of the pairing and the show’s wider rollout.

Industry observers note that the situation highlights a long-standing structural issue within Thai BL: the heavy reliance on fixed on-screen pairings.

When one half of a duo becomes entangled in contractual or legal issues, entire productions and marketing strategies can unravel, impacting not just companies but also co-stars and production crews.

Fan and netizen reactions have been sharply divided. Some have called for strict legal consequences against Smart Chisanupong Puangmanee, arguing that contract integrity is essential in a competitive entertainment market.

Others, however, have urged a more measured approach, focusing instead on protecting opportunities for Tharathon “Boom” Phumphothingam, whose career trajectory now faces uncertainty through no fault of his own.

There is also a growing conversation about whether management contracts in the BL sector need clearer boundaries and better transparency to avoid similar disputes in future.

WeTV, for its part, has framed the case as a matter of principle, stressing that respect for contracts and legal frameworks is key to maintaining a stable industry environment.

The company has signalled it will continue to pursue the matter through all available legal channels.

What do you make of the situation—should contracts be enforced without compromise, or is there room for flexibility in fast-moving careers? And more importantly, where does this leave Boom and the future of Top Form?
