China’s entertainment scene has been jolted by a fast-moving dispute involving actor Tian Xuning and Douyin influencer Jiuchengmei, after accusations aired during a livestream rapidly escalated into a potential court battle. On 14 March 2026, two related hashtags — questioning whether Tian Xuning would sue and highlighting a legal confrontation between the pair — surged to the top of social media trending lists, collecting more than 150 million views within hours.

The argument erupted after Tian Xuning’s studio announced plans to pursue legal action against Jiuchengmei, accusing the influencer of spreading false statements that could harm the actor’s reputation.

The statement followed a Douyin livestream on 13 March in which Jiuchengmei made a series of claims about her alleged past relationship with the actor.

According to Jiuchengmei, she and Tian Xuning had been romantically involved for two years before separating in early 2024. During the broadcast, she presented what she said was a video of the two sharing a kiss and spoke emotionally about their time together.

She also accused the actor of seeing multiple people during the relationship. In the livestream, Jiuchengmei said she only later realised that Tian Xuning had allegedly been dating others at the same time.

The claims went further. Jiuchengmei told viewers that the actor had a child born in August 2024, suggesting that the birth occurred while their relationship had not yet fully ended. Her remarks immediately triggered widespread discussion online.

However, rumours about Tian Xuning having a child had already been rejected by his management in the past.

In June 2025, the actor’s agency issued a formal statement saying he was single, had never been married and had no children. The agency described earlier rumours as distortions of fact and said legal advisers had been tasked with gathering evidence related to the claims.

The studio’s latest statement, took a firmer tone. It said the allegations made by Jiuchengmei during her livestream contained inaccurate information and could constitute defamation.

The studio confirmed it had appointed a legal team to preserve evidence and prepare a lawsuit through the people’s court.

But within hours, Jiuchengmei answered publicly with several short Douyin videos. Appearing unfazed, she directly challenged the actor and his team.

“Are you going to sue me? I’m ready to go all the way,” she said on camera.

Her response transformed the situation from a celebrity rumour into a full-scale online confrontation. Rather than backing down, Jiuchengmei insisted that the details she shared were genuine and said she possessed evidence to support her claims.

She also posted additional photos and clips she said showed moments from trips and private meetings with Tian Xuning, tagging the actor in some of the uploads. The posts suggested she had no intention of deleting earlier materials, including dozens of images she had already shared online.

The evidence itself quickly became a fresh point of debate. Some internet users questioned whether the kissing video presented during the livestream was authentic. A number of viewers suggested the clip might contain signs of digital editing, pointing to lighting inconsistencies and unusual facial proportions.

Others, however, argued that the materials looked convincing enough to warrant a clearer explanation from both sides. The uncertainty has helped keep the story circulating across multiple platforms.

Some fans of Tian Xuning, who rose to prominence in 2025 after his breakout role in the drama Reverse Love, have defended the actor and criticised the influencer’s livestream as an attempt to gain attention. They argue the accusations repeat rumours that were already denied by the actor’s agency last year.

Another group of netizens has taken a wait-and-see approach, calling for both parties to present evidence through legal channels rather than continuing the dispute through social media posts.

Meanwhile, a smaller but vocal segment online has expressed curiosity about the materials Jiuchengmei released, suggesting the controversy highlights how quickly private matters can become public spectacles in the age of livestream platforms.

Since issuing its legal warning, Tian Xuning’s studio has avoided further online exchanges and indicated it will focus on legal procedures rather than public arguments.

For now, both sides appear unwilling to retreat. If the case does proceed through legal channels, the evidence presented could determine how this headline-grabbing dispute is remembered.
