Hong Kong film veteran Louis Koo has addressed reports of a laser beam being directed at his eyes during a public event on 28 March, clarifying he was unaware of the incident at the time while warning of the potential risk such actions pose.
Speaking after images circulated online, Louis Koo said he did not notice anyone aiming a laser at him during the appearance.
He initially assumed the light seen in photos was a reflection or visual effect rather than an external source. The actor added that if a laser had indeed been used deliberately, it would be a serious safety concern given the potential to damage eyesight.
He noted that he had been wearing sunglasses during the event, which may have offered some protection. Even so, he maintained he had no direct awareness of the situation while on site.

The footage in question, reportedly taken during a high-profile Hong Kong film industry event, shows a green laser beam briefly tracking across Louis Koo’s face as he greeted fans.
The light appears to follow his movement for several seconds before he proceeds into the venue.
While he did not visibly react, the clip quickly triggered backlash online.
Fan response has been sharply divided between concern and anger.
Many described the act as reckless and unacceptable, calling for tighter security checks at public events and accountability for those responsible.

Some argued the behaviour crossed a line into deliberate harm, while others urged caution, noting that the actor himself did not confirm experiencing discomfort at the time. A smaller segment of netizens questioned whether the light source was intentional or accidental, though this view has been largely overshadowed by criticism.
The incident has also reignited discussion around Louis Koo’s long-standing eye condition.
The actor confirmed he has been dealing with retinal issues in his right eye, including two holes that have caused visual disturbances commonly described as floaters.
These symptoms can appear as moving black lines or shadows in one’s field of vision. He revealed plans to undergo further medical treatment to address the condition.
His frequent use of sunglasses in recent years, previously dismissed by some as a stylistic choice, has now been clarified as a practical measure to reduce discomfort and protect his eyes.
The actor’s medical history dates back to an on-set injury during filming several years ago, which required stitches and contributed to ongoing complications.
Despite health challenges, Louis Koo remains active professionally. His latest film project has been gaining steady attention, with the actor continuing promotional appearances and maintaining a visible presence in the industry.
While no injury has been reported in this case, the reaction underscores growing unease over how easily such incidents can occur.
The focus now shifts to whether organisers will tighten security measures moving forward and how seriously such actions will be treated.
