Dagushan Scenic Spot in Liaoning has quietly turned into one of China’s most talked-about celebrity destinations, with names like Bai Lu, Meng Ziyi, Joseph Zeng Shunxi, and Chen Xinhai recently spotted making a low-key visit just ahead of Lunar New Year.

The four actors were seen travelling together to Dagushan in Donggang, reportedly without production crews, staff, or any variety show filming in sight. No cameras, no PR spectacle. Just incense sticks, quiet walks around the temple grounds, and the now-famous “tree-hugging blessing” ritual under the millennium-old ginkgo tree.

According to on-site sightings, the group queued to purchase incense, walked clockwise around the sacred tree, touched its trunk, and made wishes.

As the visit took place shortly before Lunar New Year, many netizens believe the purpose was simple: New Year prayers and fresh beginnings.

Why Dagushan?

Dagushan, located in Donggang, Liaoning Province, is known as a spiritual convergence point of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism

The scenic area houses 26 temples and ancient trees, including a 1,200-year-old ginkgo dating back to the Tang Dynasty. For visitors, the experience blends mountain hiking, ritual prayer, scenic views, and cultural heritage.

In short, it offers:

• A calm spiritual atmosphere
• Traditional blessing rituals
• Historical architecture and temples
• Mountain trekking and fresh coastal air
• Seasonal fruit and seafood local specialities

Over the past year, Dagushan has reportedly welcomed more than 50 celebrities.

Veteran actors like Eric Tsang, Hong Kong icons including Tony Leung Ka-fai and Rosamund Kwan, and mainland stars such as Huang Xiaoming, Zhang Ziyi, Johnny Huang, Zhang Yixing, Qin Lan, Li Naiwen, and Xin Baiqing have all been linked to visits.

Some stories raised eyebrows. Li Naiwen was said to have visited six times within half a year. Arthur Chen reportedly stayed for three consecutive days with his family. Huang Xiaoming, Luo Jin, and even director Chen Kaige were rumoured to have paid respects there.

The growing list has triggered one big online question: Why are so many stars suddenly going to Dagushan?

Producer Yu Zheng, who is also Bai Lu’s manager, stepped forward to address the curiosity after sharing his own check-in location.

He described Dagushan as a place of “great natural energy and talented people,” adding that climbing the mountain is good exercise and praising the local strawberries, blueberries, and seafood.

He wrote that there are “countless reasons to fall in love with a place,” calling it simple, free, and beautiful.

Netizens, however, remain divided.

Supportive voices say:

• “It’s just New Year prayers. Let them live.”
• “Climbing mountains and making wishes is normal.”
• “Maybe they just like the scenery.”

Sceptical reactions include:

• “Why does it feel like the celebrity density is too high?”
• “Is there someone special there?”
• “Why do some of them go to places not open to the public?”
• “Next Weibo Night should just be held at Dagushan.”

Some online discussions pointed out that certain stars appeared to visit Xuan Du Palace, a reconstructed Taoist temple originally built during the Tang Dynasty and rebuilt in 2007.

There were claims that this specific area is not open to regular visitors, although this remains unverified.

The conversation escalated further when netizens noticed that the Dagushan visited by celebrities seemed slightly different from the one accessible to ordinary tourists. That observation fuelled more speculation, though no solid proof has surfaced.

At its core, Dagushan offers what many public figures might be seeking: peace, privacy, spiritual reflection, and a reset before a new year begins.

Still, the sheer number of familiar names attached to one scenic site has made Dagushan trend far beyond Liaoning. Whether it’s faith, fresh air, fitness, or just a beautiful getaway, one thing is clear: Dagushan’s reputation as a celebrity magnet is only growing.

So what do you think? Is this just coincidence and timing before Lunar New Year, or is there something about Dagushan that keeps drawing stars back again and again?
