Hong Kong singer Gigi Yim Ming-hay is stepping into the Year of the Horse with a surprisingly personal wish — she wants to try dating. As she officially enters her 20s and returns to the spotlight with renewed energy, the young vocalist is not only planning musical reinvention but also hoping for a little romance to shake things up.
The singer, who recently re-focused on her music career, shared in an interview that this year feels different. Turning twenty has shifted her mindset. Beyond experimenting with new musical styles and collaborating with more senior artistes, she openly admitted she hopes her “romance star” will shine in the coming year.
“I’ve always wanted to try that feeling,” she said honestly. “But most people around me are seniors or colleagues. I hope to experience something different, so I can express myself differently in my work.”

“Sometimes standing on stage alone feels a bit solitary,” she admitted. “It’s happier when everyone plays together.”
She even expressed interest in challenging platforms like The First Take, describing her new song “Wind Journey” as a travel handbook filled with memories.
Although she feels slightly nervous about such high-pressure live recordings, she believes preparation is key — even if those around her tease her about when she’ll ever feel “ready”.
