STU48 have officially released the music video for their 13th single “Sukisugite Naku” on 25 February, and it marks a major milestone for the group — Draft Generation 3 member Nakamura Mai’s first-ever solo centre. The physical single is set to land on 4 March, and from the very first frame, the song’s emotional weight is clear.
“Sukisugite Naku” tells the story of a first love that stayed unspoken, not because it wasn’t strong enough, but because it felt too strong to say out loud.
The lyrics lean into longing, hesitation, and the quiet regret of missing the right moment, making the track feel intimate and painfully relatable.
The song doesn’t aim for dramatic confession. Instead, it sits in that uncomfortable space where feelings are hidden, time moves on, and the heart is left asking “what if?” That restraint is exactly why the emotion hits harder.
For Nakamura Mai, this single is a turning point. Speaking about taking centre position for the first time, she shared that the experience felt both overwhelming and deeply meaningful.
“I kept thinking about the girl in the song — how she couldn’t move forward even though her feelings were real,” Nakamura Mai said.
“While filming, I tried to overlap those emotions with my own, especially moments when I doubted myself.”
She also admitted that standing alone at the centre changed how she viewed her role in the group.
“Being the only centre made me more aware of my responsibility. I wanted to carry the song honestly, without overacting, just letting the feeling exist.”

The music video opens with Nakamura discovering a photo frame in a forest, a simple object that becomes a gateway to a symbolic journey.
As she touches it, the scene shifts into vast natural landscapes where she walks alongside other members — together, yet gradually drifting apart.
The sense of distance grows, reflecting the song’s theme of being left behind by time and unspoken feelings. Later, the frame reappears, leading her to the seaside, where fantasy-like visuals blend with reality.
The final scene shows Nakamura returning to the original world, noticing a compass at her feet, and choosing to walk forward — a quiet but powerful metaphor for acceptance and growth.
Filmed in Yamaguchi’s breathtaking natural scenery
Shot in Yamaguchi Prefecture, the MV makes full use of the dramatic Akiyoshidai karst plateau and the open coastal views of Kira La Beach. The wide skies, grasslands, and shoreline aren’t just visual decoration — they echo the song’s emotional emptiness and longing.
Dance scenes are woven naturally into these settings, with choreography designed to mirror hesitation, distance, and emotional sway. The result is a performance that feels grounded, not staged, letting the environment carry part of the story.
Fan reactions online have been mixed in tone but strong in feeling. Many praised Nakamura Mai’s restrained expression, calling her centre performance “soft but piercing.”
Some longtime fans described the song as “dangerously relatable”, while others admitted the MV felt like revisiting emotions they thought they had already left behind.
There are also voices noting that “Sukisugite Naku” may not be an instant catchy hit, but rather a song that grows heavier the more you sit with it — a direction that feels mature for STU48 at this stage.
To celebrate the release, STU48 are holding single release events across multiple locations, with anticipation building for live performances of the coupling tracks.
The group has also confirmed their 9th anniversary concert in April, followed by Ishida Chiho’s graduation concert in May, making the coming months an emotional stretch for fans.
With “Sukisugite Naku,” STU48 aren’t just releasing another single — they’re offering a quiet reflection on love, timing, and the courage it takes to finally move on.
What did you feel after watching the MV — nostalgia, regret, or relief?
