Nogizaka46 member Kawasaki Sakura is officially stepping into a major idol milestone. Her long-awaited first photobook, set for release on 14 April 2026, has revealed its title and four special edition covers. Titled Etude, the project captures the 22-year-old in France, marking a significant moment not just for her career, but within the Sakamichi Series tradition where a solo photobook is considered a true badge of recognition.
For J-pop idols, especially those under the Sakamichi umbrella, a first photobook is more than glossy pages. It signals trust from management, strong public support, and proven fan enthusiasm. Agencies typically conduct careful surveys and sales projections before greenlighting a release. In other words, you do not get this opportunity unless the numbers and the buzz are there. Kawasaki Sakura has clearly earned it.
The title Etude comes from the French word meaning “practice”. Rather than presenting herself as a fully polished, finished version, Sakura explained that this book reflects her current self, still walking towards her ideal. It is not about perfection.

It is about growth, effort, and honest moments along the way. That concept alone already sets a softer, more reflective tone compared to typical idol photobooks that lean heavily into glamour.
Shot across two French cities, Nice and Paris, the 176-page A4 all-colour release was photographed by Sue Takaharu. The contrasting locations allow for a striking duality: sunlight-soaked Mediterranean warmth and chic Parisian elegance.

Regular Edition Cover – Paris Morning Elegance
The standard edition was photographed on the final morning in Paris. Wearing a soft cherry-blossom-toned dress, Sakura turns towards the camera under the morning sun.
She admitted the dress felt more mature than her usual styling, so she consciously adjusted her expression to match that grown-up mood. The result is subtle sophistication with a quiet confidence.
Rakuten Books Limited Cover – Nice Harbour Mood. This version features a shot taken on a boat in Nice. With the sea shimmering behind her and a sailor-inspired outfit, Sakura gazes into the camera with an almost dreamy expression.
She even revealed that when the photo was taken, she immediately hoped it would become a cover. Fans will also notice her slightly parted fringe, adding to the relaxed Southern France aesthetic.
Seven Net Shopping Limited Cover – Bright Morning Market Energy. Captured early in the morning at a Nice market, this edition showcases her cheerful and natural smile. She described the shoot as genuinely fun, saying the lively expression came out effortlessly. The vibe here is travel diary meets youthful excitement.

Sony Music Shop Limited Cover – Paris Ice Rink Dream
Perhaps the most personal cover of all, this one shows Sakura skating at a Paris ice rink during sunset.
Figure skating has been a core part of her life and youth, and she even contributed ideas to the costume design, including adding wing details.
For her, this image represents her origin story and the foundation that shaped who she is today
Genre-wise, Etude sits comfortably within the coming-of-age and travel documentary style of idol photobooks. Expect:
- Elegant European cityscapes paired with intimate close-up portraits
- A balance between mature elegance and innocent charm
- Fashion-forward styling mixed with candid, diary-like moments
- Personal touches that reflect Sakura’s skating background
- A journey-style narrative that feels like travelling alongside her
The Nice seaside segments reportedly include swimwear shoots under bright Mediterranean sunshine, while Paris scenes lean into fashion, strolling shots, and cultural backdrops. The concept blends aspirational beauty with relatability.
Born on 17 April 2003 in Kanagawa Prefecture, Kawasaki Sakura joined Nogizaka46 as a 5th generation member in 2022. She quickly gained attention, serving as centre for the 5th gen track 17 Minutes and later becoming a consistent senbatsu member.
Her background in figure skating also led to her role as a special supporter for the 2023 World Figure Skating Championships broadcast. Beyond music, she has taken on radio MC duties, steadily building her public presence. Reactions online have been varied but largely enthusiastic.

Many fans praised the elegant concept, calling the Paris dress cover “her most mature look yet.” Some longtime supporters highlighted how meaningful the skating cover feels, seeing it as a full-circle moment in her journey. Others are already debating which limited edition will sell out first.
A portion of netizens, however, questioned whether releasing multiple exclusive covers pressures collectors financially. Still, most comments lean positive, with many noting that securing a solo photobook reflects strong fanbase power and stable popularity.
For international fans wondering about scanned copies in RAR or ZIP format, it is important to support official sales channels. Purchasing through authorised retailers or official international proxy services ensures the release is counted in official sales.
Sharing or downloading unofficial scanned files can affect future opportunities for the idol. Supporting the official version helps guarantee more projects like this down the line.
Kawasaki Sakura herself described Etude as a “surprise present” and a gift to fans. She hopes readers will look at the finished book and simply think, “This is amazing.” With its mix of sincerity, travel aesthetics and personal storytelling, it certainly aims to deliver that feeling.
Will Etude become one of the standout idol photobooks of 2026?
