Nogizaka46 have officially confirmed their 41st single, titled “Saigo ni Kaidan wo Kakeagatta no wa Itsuda? (最後に階段を駆け上がったのはいつだ?)” set for release on 8 April 2026. The announcement, made during the February broadcast of Nogizaka Kojichuu, immediately sparked discussion across the fandom thanks to a bold centre choice and a reshuffled senbatsu line-up.
The title translates to “When Was the Last Time You Ran Up the Stairs?”, and signals a reflective yet forward-looking concept. The single will be performed by 16 selected senbatsu members, with Ikeda Teresa stepping into the centre position for the very first time on a main Nogizaka46 single — a major career milestone and a defining moment for the group’s current era.
Ikeda Teresa Makes Her Centre Debut
For long-time watchers, this is a big shift. Ikeda becomes the third 5th generation member to centre a senbatsu single, following Nakanishi Aruno and Inoue Nagi. Her promotion feels symbolic — a bridge between stability and renewal after recent graduations.
Fans have described the decision as “well deserved” and “the natural next step” for the 5th gen push. Others see it as Nogizaka46 carefully balancing legacy members with rising faces, maintaining their signature elegance while gradually refreshing the front line.

The 16-member senbatsu is arranged as follows:
First Row
Endo Sakura – Ikeda Teresa (centre) – Ioki Mao
Second Row
Nakanishi Aruno – Umezawa Minami – Inoue Nagi – Kaki Haruka – Kawasaki Sakura – Ichinose Miku
Third Row
Tsutsui Ayame – Ogawa Aya – Yumiki Nao – Sugawara Satsuki – Tomisato Nao – Hayashi Runa – Tamura Mayu
Notably returning to senbatsu are Tomisato Nao, Hayashi Runa, Tamura Mayu, and Ioki Mao, who move up from the under formation. Their comeback adds experience and familiarity to the formation.
Meanwhile, Kubo Shiori, Okamoto Hina, Setoguchi Mitsuki, and Yada Moeka are absent from this senbatsu. This single also marks the first release following the graduations of Kubo Shiori, Yakubo Mio, and Matsuo Miyu, officially closing one chapter and opening another.
No 6th Generation in Main Senbatsu
Despite 6th generation members officially joining activities, none are included in the main senbatsu this time. Instead, the formation remains dominated by 3rd, 4th, and 5th generation members. Interestingly, this is the first single to include the 6th generation in the under formation, highlighting a gradual introduction strategy rather than a sudden push.
Another detail that caught attention: no member is making her first-ever senbatsu appearance in a main single this round, suggesting a more stable and experienced line-up overall.
With a fully Japanese title — something Nogizaka46 last did with “Hodoukyou” — expectations are leaning toward a classic Nogizaka-style track. Fans are predicting:
• A sentimental yet uplifting melody
• Thoughtful lyrics about growth and self-reflection
• Elegant choreography rather than high-intensity performance
• A visually soft, cinematic music video
The title itself evokes imagery of youth, urgency, and nostalgia — very much in line with Nogizaka’s established identity of graceful coming-of-age storytelling.

Reactions online have been mixed but passionate. Supporters of Ikeda Teresa are celebrating her centre appointment as overdue recognition of her steady growth. Many describe the move as “strategic but heartfelt,” especially as Nogizaka navigates a post-graduation transition.
Some fans, however, expressed surprise at the absence of certain familiar names and hoped for a bolder generational shake-up. The decision not to place a 6th gen member in senbatsu sparked debate about whether the group is playing it safe or building anticipation deliberately.
There is also emotional chatter surrounding this being the last release featuring Sato Rika, adding a subtle layer of nostalgia to the upcoming promotions.
As the first single following multiple graduations and with a first-time centre leading the charge, the 41st single feels like a statement release. It is not radical, but it is deliberate — reinforcing the group’s polished identity while quietly shifting the spotlight.
What do you think about the senbatsu formation? Is this the right timing for Ikeda Teresa to take centre stage, and should 6th gen members have been included?
