Hong Kong actress-singer Joey Thye has revealed that she blocked an aggressive male colleague after enduring nearly two years of unwanted attention, admitting that even now she still feels uneasy when she spots him at public events. The 30-year-old, often dubbed a “goddess” by fans for her sweet image and model-like figure, shared the experience during a recent YouTube talk show appearance.
Before that revelation, Joey Thye had already stirred up social media on Valentine’s Day. She posted a cheeky photo of herself leaning against what she described as a “boyfriend-material chest,” with the caption: “Happy Valentine’s Day. Boyfriend-material chest. Fell in love.”
Naturally, netizens went into meltdown mode. Many rushed to congratulate her, thinking she had finally confirmed a relationship after seven years in showbiz with little romance gossip attached to her name.
But the punchline came in the next slide — the so-called “boyfriend” turned out to be none other than singer Jinny Ng (吳若希). The playful twist left fans laughing, praising Joey for her sense of humour and calling the fake-out “the best Valentine’s prank.”
However, the mood shifted when Joey opened up about a much darker chapter behind the scenes.
According to her, the situation began two years ago when she met a male colleague through a dinner gathering. She described him as not particularly handsome but quite humorous.
Initially, she found him interesting enough to include in her friend group. Yet after just a week of acquaintance, and following a mahjong session, he sent her a lengthy confession message.

Joey Thye, known for her straightforward personality, did not sugarcoat her response. She replied bluntly: “Sorry, don’t waste your time on me, because I only like handsome guys.” She made it clear she was not interested.
For most people, that would have been the end of it. But not in this case.
Instead of backing off, the man allegedly escalated his behaviour. Joey Thye shared that he began messaging her daily, almost like clocking in at work. Morning, afternoon, night — without fail. He treated their chat like a personal diary and repeatedly asked her out for drives.
What unsettled her most was discovering that he had tracked down her private studio. “Luckily I wasn’t alone,” she said, explaining that friends were present at the time. She admitted she genuinely did not know how she would have handled it otherwise.
Things reached a breaking point when he demanded to speak with her alone. Joey Thye refused immediately, saying she did not feel safe. According to her account, his tone grew increasingly agitated, repeatedly insisting that he “missed her so much.”
At that moment, Joey Thye snapped in front of their mutual friends, saying: “This behaviour feels terrifying.”
The man reportedly defended himself, saying, “I’m not crazy!”
Joey Thye walked away and blocked him across all communication platforms. While contact has been cut off, she admitted that even now, seeing him from afar at industry events still makes her feel “a little scared.”

During the show, the host jokingly suggested the man could be Bob Lam (林盛斌), but Joey Thye denied it immediately. Based on her description, the so-called “obsessive pursuer” is a male colleague who appears on camera, has average looks, and does not fit the typical “thick eyebrows, big eyes” handsome stereotype.
Some applauded Joey Thye for speaking up and setting firm boundaries, praising her for not tolerating uncomfortable behaviour. Many commented that her blunt rejection was bold but honest, and that no one should be pressured into responding to unwanted attention.
Others debated her choice of words, particularly her “I only like handsome guys” remark. While some found it refreshingly candid and very Joey Thye, others felt it might have unintentionally fuelled the man’s reaction. A portion of netizens also speculated about the identity of the colleague, turning detective mode on — though many reminded others not to jump to conclusions without evidence.
As for Joey Thye, she appears focused on her work and keeping her private life firmly under control — Valentine’s pranks included.
