Sisley Choi’s standing at TVB is once again under the spotlight, as the actress appears to have quietly slipped out of the station’s inner circle. Once a familiar face in prime-time slots, Sisley Choi has not filmed a new TVB drama in two years, and her absence from major upcoming productions is now fuelling fresh industry chatter.

The 35-year-old actress, known for her past award wins and high-profile roles, has seen her workload drop sharply. Apart from a cameo appearance in the Stephen Chow-directed film Shaolin Women’s Soccer (女足), she has had minimal collaboration with TVB in recent years. For an actress who once dominated discussion boards and awards seasons, the shift is hard to ignore.

The situation intensified when filming for The Airport Diary 2 (飛常日誌2) wrapped earlier this year.

Kenneth Ma and Samantha Ko both returned to reprise their roles, but Sisley — who previously expressed interest in coming back for the sequel — was noticeably absent.

Her non-appearance quickly became a talking point online, especially given her history of mixed popularity among netizens.

For some viewers, her absence confirmed speculation that she has fallen out of favour with the broadcaster.

Earlier reports suggested Sisley Choi may leave TVB once her contract expires, and the sequel casting news has only added fuel to that narrative.

While there has been no official confirmation from either side, the silence has been loud enough for fans to draw their own conclusions.

That said, Sisley Choi is hardly sitting at home waiting for the phone to ring. In November, she joined Him Law, along with MidLife Sing & Shine! contestants Ramon Lo and Rex Teh, for stage performances in New York and Los Angeles — a move that hinted at broader career ambitions beyond Hong Kong television.

She is also scheduled to attend a music function in Guangzhou this March, signalling that she is still actively expanding her public presence.

Interestingly, Sisley herself appears completely unfazed by the speculation.

On 6 February, she celebrated her 35th birthday and two days later shared a series of glamorous dinner photos on social media.

Dressed in a striking fire-red evening gown that highlighted her elegant shoulder line, she posed at a cosy yet stylish birthday meal featuring seafood, soup, bread and, of course, cake.

One photo in particular caught attention: Sisley Choi holding a candle in her mouth while lighting it herself with a lighter — a dramatic, almost cinematic touch.

Alongside the photos, she wrote, “Red for rebirth. Chrome for clarity. Black for the fire’s shadow. This year, the story begins again. Thank you for all of your birthday wishes.”

Industry friends including Matthew Ho, Elaine Yiu, Vivien Yeo, Tracy Chu, Rosita Kwok and Kay Tse flooded the comments with birthday messages. Meanwhile, netizens were divided.

Some praised her beauty and confidence, calling her a “goddess who can look stunning in any casual snap”.

Others couldn’t help but link the symbolic “rebirth” caption to her uncertain TVB standing, interpreting it as a subtle hint of a new chapter — possibly away from the broadcaster.

Fan reactions remain split. Loyal supporters argue that Sisley has long been unfairly targeted online and deserves space to evolve her career on her own terms.

Critics, however, believe her cooling relationship with TVB reflects shifting audience preferences and internal station politics. The Airport Diary 2 casting news only widened that debate.

So, is this truly a fall from favour — or just the calm before a major comeback?
