The 40-episode family drama “Wonderful Times” officially premieres on 23 February, bringing a nostalgic, era-set story straight to prime time. Led by a heavyweight cast including Mei Ting, Tian Yu, Chen Haoyu, Li Xueqin, Liu Yitie, Zhou Chengao, Su Xiaoding, and Zhang Yue, the long-awaited series is ready to deliver warmth, humour, and heartfelt family moments in one complete package.
Set against a period backdrop and produced by a team known for their experience in realistic, time-specific dramas, Wonderful Times leans into emotional storytelling while keeping things grounded and relatable. It’s positioned as the kind of show families can sit down and watch together — the sort that sparks conversation long after the credits roll.
Filming lasted four months, and judging by the cast’s recent media session, it was filled with both touching and hilariously unexpected memories.
Mei Ting shared one of her favourite behind-the-scenes moments, recalling how Tian Yu once playfully interacted with two tiny piglets on set.

According to her, it was one of those spontaneous scenes that instantly lightened the mood during a long filming day.
Tian Yu laughed as he retold the story himself. During a lunch break, he spotted the two clean little piglets calmly sunbathing under the afternoon light. The peaceful image apparently struck him.
Half-joking, he said he felt tempted to lie down beside them and soak up the sunshine too — while the rest of the crew were still busy working. The story drew plenty of smiles, showing a softer, more playful side of the veteran actor.
Meanwhile, Chen Haoyu and Li Xueqin shared a completely different type of memory — one tied to an intense emotional scene.
Chen recalled a powerful moment where Li Xueqin had to break down in tears for a crucial part of the story. The atmosphere on set was heavy, and everyone was fully immersed.
But just as the emotional take wrapped successfully, the mood flipped.

Li Xueqin revealed that production suddenly had to pause because her wig had accidentally been tugged by Chen Haoyu mid-scene, meaning the whole emotional sequence had to be redone.
What should have been a serious moment turned into uncontrollable laughter once filming stopped. The story quickly became one of the highlights of the press session.
Online reactions have been mixed but engaged. Many fans are excited to see Mei Ting and Tian Yu collaborate in a family-centred story, praising the casting as “reliable” and “emotionally solid.” Others are particularly curious about Li Xueqin’s performance, noting her steady growth in dramatic roles.
Some netizens are cautiously optimistic, pointing out that period family dramas can either feel deeply moving or slightly slow-paced depending on execution. A few viewers hope the series balances nostalgia with strong pacing to keep younger audiences hooked.
However, the overall buzz leans positive. The behind-the-scenes anecdotes have made the cast feel approachable and genuine, adding a layer of charm before the show even airs.
Wonderful Times is shaping up to be more than just another period drama. It’s aiming to capture everyday family bonds — the quiet sacrifices, the unexpected laughter, and the small moments that matter most.
Will it live up to expectations and become the next must-watch family series of the season? Or will it spark debate among viewers once the full story unfolds?
